Eliminate the people and places that remind or tempt you.
Remember the reasons that make you want to be a better person, like a jail cell, or your sweetheart.
Believe in yourself and accept personal responsibility for your life. If you make excuses for yourself, you are already lost.
Open a book and educate yourself. It keeps your mind occupied, and will make you a more thoughtful and intelligent person in every aspect of your life.

you can never veer away from the fact that you are an ex offender but the answer to your question is this. If you are willing to put yourself in a situation where you may return back to prison then that was something you chose to do. My opinion. Do your normal daily routine but when a situation comes up, lower yourself to a level where you don't lose control and do something you would regret. I know this because as an ex offender I have been doing fine for four years.

Put yourself face to face with the people your crimes have hurt the most. Learn to empathise with other human beings. Start reading. Learning to read or even upping your reading level has changed the ideas and outlooks of criminals. Take some classes on ethics and psychology for fun. Don't hang out with the same old people you knew before. Always keep in touch with a therapist, try to find a friend who is an older wiser reformed criminal. Sometimes even adults need mentors to help them make wise lifestyle choices.

First off, if they are sexual predators or pedophiles they shouldn't be released, they should be dealt with in a proper manner......use your imagination on that.
Second, depending what they were locked up for, how about sending them to the military. If that won't help straighten them out, nothing will.
Personally I don't think it's what they do after release that will break them as I do what is done while on the inside. Send prisoners to a tent camp in the desert like in Arizona and they will less likely want to return. Give them air conditioned, heated living quarters, cable TV, library's, good meals, computer privileges, and more, they may not think prison life is to bad and wouldn't mind returning.

Get a job and do volunteer work on the side to keep busy. Don't hang out with any of his old friend. Find a church with an ex-offender program.

Jobs oppurtunities....thats why when a offender comes out of prison and is on parole they are generally appointed a job by their parole officers. This is to keep them busy and to grease the wheels for a second chance at success.

About 75% of them spend their free time thinking new crimes they can be caught at so they can go back the three hots and a cot. They say prison is the worst thing ever. If that is so why do so many keep going back.

Make new friends, go to the library, exercise, don't go out in public much more than you have to, have a low profile.
If you are an ex offender I wish you the best, and welcome back to the free world, you made it man.
