I'd been sketching wedding gowns for years before I got married, all Victorian/Edwardian Gibson Girl-type styles. When I got engaged, and started really looking at wedding gowns (we had a 4 month engagement, so I picked a gown in under a month), the ones I wound up being drawn to were medieval/Renaissance styles, and the one I finally chose was a pseudo-Tudor princess look... I was off in my imaginings by only 350 years....

I think it was like the third gown I saw, and it was princess-perfect. I had gone shopping long before the wedding, in case I had to order one (was in a very small city), and there it was! I'm a plus woman, so was pleasantly surprised and wowed to find the gown truly of my dreams! It was better than I imagined!

I found "my dress" at a davids bridal. I did not actually expect to find anything there. My plan was to go in, try on some dresses and not make a commitment to anything because I had another appointment at another shop that afternoon and I wanted to leave my options open.I found it on the second day in davids bridal. Its a strapless dress which i something I would never wear but since its my wedding day, I said why not.I always thought that my wedding dress would have sleeves or at least be off the shoulder. Its georgeous and I love it.

Yes - it was different than I imagined. My mother ended up making my beautiful wedding dress. Give yourself plenty of time to look. Go to fabric stores and look at the gowns in the books. Get some magazines -- they have great ideas and gift cards you can fill out. Go to bridal shops and try on some dresses. Have some fun with it -- going with your mother, sister, or dear friend.

It took me a long time. When I found it I knew that it was the one.The only thing was they couldn't order it in my size.I was so upset. They wanted to see if it could be taken up to fit me. The lady that was going to hym it told me that she couldn't . The next thing I knew was this lady coming in and asking me why I was crying. I told her that the dress couldn't be ordered and the lady said that she couldn't take it up. I didn't know that this lady was the owner. She looked at the lady and told her to take it up to fit me or she wouldn't have a job. It was a size 12 and she had to size it to an 8. So I went through alot. But it was the dress of my dream. I can still wear it 20 years later. Good luck and don't give up no matter how long it takes.

My dress experience was out of the ordinary. I found a beautiful designer dress in a magazine I loved. The price of the dress made me sick though. I was miserable since I couldn't afford the dress and no other was good enough. Ironically, my fiance's best friend was shopping with his girlfriend in a consignment shop and found the exact same dress I wanted, unaltered!! The price was a lil high for my budget, but when I put it on, I fell in love with it. My dad loved it so much he gave me the other half the money I needed to buy it!! I got married in my dream dress, even though it weighed 48 lbs.....LOL....Beauty is pain, right??

My mom came to visit to help me find one, so I was on a tight time frame. We went to two stores the first day, and we found it at the first store we went to the second day. I tried on like 6 at that second store, and it was the first one I tried there. It was totally different. I was dead set on the fact that I would NOT get a strapless dress and was pretty sure I wanted ivory and not white. Yeah. Ended up with a white strapless dress that I LOVED. Keep an open mind. :)

One visit at the dress shop. AND...my mother in law picked it out. I hated it! She said I looked fat in all the other ones. Boy was I a weak person back then! Needless to say...that marriage is long over and that mother in law is out of my life. FINALLY! This time when I got married (#2) it took 5 visits to find the perfect wedding dress....and it was a beautiful navy blue with a scarf :) (Got married at the judges chambers)

I was shopping in a resale store with a good friend of mine when I found my dress. We were finishing up looking around when I came across the dress...simple and beautiful, like I had pictured. I wasn't going to try it on because I didn't even know at that point whether I was going to get married, but my friend convinced me to try it. And it fit perfectly!!! And it was only $15!!!! So it probably took me about 10-15 minutes after spotting it on the rack to try it on and purchase it. It was awesome!!

I took one trip to the bridal store and found my perfect wedding dress! It was the complete opposite of what I thought I would pick. I thought I wanted a dress with lots of lace and embroidery, long sleeves, and a cathedral train. ...Instead I ended up getting a strapless dress, sweep train, plain satin with a little bit of beading for a little sparkle. My husband loved it and everyone thought it was so elegant.
