I have read it and no, I do not believe. Even an evil god would have seen those events happening and said "whoa, maybe I'm going a bit too far."

I have read the book & admire Elie Weisel, and I am not stupid.
God was there, but you don't believe in God. So, really your question should be where was man, how could humans sink this low?The world was silent. Many Jews knowing they were to face death, still believed firmly in an Infinite and Omnipotent God.Do not think for one moment God will not avenge the spilled blood of His servants, He has promised to. And He will accomplice this. Wait and see.

well first yes I have read Night as well as several other Holocust books

as for believing in a loving benevolent G-d why dont you see what Elie Weisel himself says
I have not lost faith in God. I have moments of anger and protest. Sometimes I've been closer to him for that reason.

I rarely speak about God. To God, yes. I protest against Him. I shout at Him. But to open a discourse about the qualities of God, about the problems that God imposes, theodicy, no. And yet He is there, in silence, in filigree.

"God made man because He loves stories."

I read it years ago and no, I don't believe in gods, goddesses, or God.. I wouldn't go as far as calling people who still believe in a "loving, benevolent God" stupid, though.

Excellent question. At the very least, there is no God of Justice.
recently purchased the latest version translated by his wife.
Simply profound, and beyond comprehension that this kind of "evil" (for lack of better word) exists in the world.
