21 Fear the LORD and the king, my son,
and do not join with the rebellious,

22 for those two will send sudden destruction upon them,
and who knows what calamities they can bring?

First a bit of background.

Soloman, the writer of Proverbs was writing down his God given wisdom for his sons.
In these particular verses Solomon is telling his son(s) to not only fear the Lord for the punishment that he can and will bring, but also to fear (obey) earthly leaders and law, for disobedience to either will bring calamity upon those who choose this pathway.

And yes, it is still very wise to heed this advice to this day. Other parts of the bible tell us this very thing. In the book of Romans we are also told to obey our leaders and the laws of our country.

There are times it will be a good advice even for the Lords and Kings of Europe. Try to go to Arab countries who are ruled by a King and openly rebel against him see what will happen to you. Or just try Washington and join any terrorists there and see if you can even set your feet without restraints. Suddenly you will feel you are destroyed and calamities would you think of that comes to you?

Yes, it is good advice!

Just as a king in the old days would bring judgement on people who betrayed him or did not abide by his laws, so will the Lord. The Lord throughout time has judged people for not obeying His Word, and in the end he will judge all those who do not accept Him and send them to eternal damnation in a place of total miscomfort.

Yes, it is good advice.

Want better advice? Try Proverbs 1:7-The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge;but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

That depends.... good advice for what exactly? Friends that party too much?

I've always found that when something's troubling me I just open my bible to a random spot and "stab" the page (with my finger lol)... it's always helped me out and made sense!
