It applies to the UK. I was brought up in South Africa and Zimbabwe and the education system over there is far better than here, as I noticed when I started school!!!!

Not even close. If you go onto the CIA World Factbook website, you can look up any country and it has the literacy rates listed. The US has a 99% literacy rate so I think most any country in Africa would have to have 100% to beat that.

Literacy:
definition: age 15 and over can read and write
total population: 99%
male: 99%
female: 99% (2003 est.)

I know a lot of people, and although their grammar is not so very good, they all read and write. This question must have come from a Non-American who thinks were all idiots. Also, consider the population compared to the other countries on the literacy list. We have a lot of people to educate. It doesn't help that our education system is flawed; were becoming a country of idiots. At least we have Stephen Hawking, take that world!

Don't know for sure, but look at who the Amnericans voted in as president! he can barely string a sentence together even when it's wriiten for him so God help the rest of them!

thanks yellowstonedog, for that link americas lower down the list than Mongolia LOL but as to the question most of Africa is lower than the US
