Actually religion should promote love & compassion for your sisters and brother of the world, no matter what their beliefs are!
But if you can not have both in harmony, then I say ditch the religion!

Love and compassion, as those are universal to all human beings, where religion is not. We all have religious differences and ways of believing and thinking, even within the same religious denominations. But every last one of us, believer and non-believer alike, need love and compassion. :)

If you have Christ in your heart and live by what He teaches you will have compassion in your heart. Reading the new testament will show how much compassion that Jesus had for us, even as he was being nailed to the cross. When he lives in your heart, you will know true compassion. Not perfected, yet. When he comes again the people who have accepted him as Lord and Savior and have lived like he taught will be perfected through him.

Actual religion is based on compassion. If it isn't then it is pseudo religion. Krishna says in the Bhagavad Gita " Whenever there is a decline in religious principals and the truth appears to be lost, I appear again and again or send my representative to reestablish the truth."
Originally they are full of compassion then man gets his filthy hands on them and uses them for his idea. www.stephen-knapp.com for universal truths

The love & compassion is the important thing: religion is supposed to lead to it; history shows that it does not.

Peace to all,

Religion without love and compassion is a misnomer...why do you think the Bible cautions us about pharisees?
