dont get windows 2000! it andME are horrible. you can get windowsxp for lime 200 buck or if you dont want to, look for windows 98 on ebay.

Please don't waste your money on any platform that is prior to Windows XP Pro., or Windows XP Home. I use Windows XP Pro. Windows no longer supports any platform prior to these systems. Plus SP1
I have used every platform that Microsoft makes an if you are going to spend your money (I don't live if you do in the United States). They have in every country, and you can go into any computer store and purchase a very small inexpensive item and get an OEM, copy of Windows XP Pro., for $100 or less dollars.
If you have a laptop take it would you, even if you have a processor take it with you for the following reasons.
Many people who own computer shops or have electronic stores are not honest. When you ask for Windows XP Prof., have their technician install the platform. Also tell them to run all of the critical updates including SP2 (Service Pack).
Microsoft will perform especially with SP2 a validation of the key with their "WGA" tool atleast four times before installation, to make sure that the key is genuine.
Many of these shops open the new package and take out the disk and run in their own computer or run for a family member or personal friend. And they they have a plastic heating machine that will reseal the package so you will not know that it has been open. An ofcourse when Microsoft does the genuine tool check on the registration key on the box it will show as not valid, because it has been used already.

How about virus proof, Free, and as fresh as today?
And, all the Office Suites and Browsers, network tools, server OSes, are included! What does Microsoft run on all 45,000 of its systems? Linux.
