Spacers can only be taken out by a dentist, because they have a special tool to loosen the cement they used to cement it with....although spacers (space maintainers as they're called) shouldn't at all hurt if they're cemented on properly. I'm a dental assistant, and we've put spacers on patients as young as 3....if you're talking about the elastic spacers for braces, the dentist would have to do this aswell...you can try flossing them out, but that may lodge them in the gum between your teeth, and that will hurt even more...try rinsing with warm salt water or taking advil. I hope this helped :)

You can just grab them and pull, but try to take some Advil and keep them in. If you take them out, they will just have to start over again.

REST ASSURED THAT AFTER A FEW DAYS YOU WILL GET USED TO HAVING THEM IN, AFTERWORDS, THE BANDS ARE PLACED WHERE THEY WERE USED TO OPEN UP THE SPACES FR THE BANDS. EVEN THOUGH THEY'RE UNCOMFORTABLE RIGHT NOW, THEY'RE VERY IMPORTANT TO THE OUTCOME OF YOUR CASE
