There is a health risk to having bad teeth you can't afford to fix. There is no health risk to getting dentures. $11,000 is a lot of money when you don't have it, I know. Been there. If it was me I'd get rid of the teeth and get the dentures. I had my teeth out 10 years ago and I never been sorry. By the way, I'm 25 now.

I'm a dental assistant, so no, there are no health risks to getting dentures...but you're so young, why would you want them? Old people wear dentures. Do you have missing teeth already? If so, get them replaced with something that doesn't come in and out of your mouth (like bridges or even better, implants). They are more expensive than dentures, but not when you think that the average age of a pair of dentures is about 7 years....so you'd more than pay for the impants or bridges when you think about how many times you'd have to replace the dentures in your lifetime....there are no cons to getting implants...they have a 99% success rate and if you don't smoke and don't have diabetes they should last forever, and they look REAL....I've assisted on several implants over the years and every patient has been more than satisfied and said they only had to take an advil ot two the day of the surgery. If you're teeth are already gone, do the implants if you can....if you still have your teeth, get them fixed if possible....nothing is better than having your natural teeth if they can be fixed. I hope this helped :)

Getting teeth pulled is no fun. But if you are looking at 11,000 dollars to fix your teeth? That does not sound like a very good deal to me because you also have children and 11,000 dollars is alot of money. I've noticed that when you pay alot on teeth sometimes they dont do a good job and the tooth falls out and there goes money down the drain so I have this lovely hole in my mouth that has been there since I was 10 (19 now) just get the dentures. They really aren;'t that bad just as long as you can chew. There are no health risks that come with it. I work at assisted living and no one has ever had problems with there dentures.

Go and talk to someone old that has been wearing dentures for many years - ask them what they would give to have their own teeth back? Compare the faces of people who have their own teeth with those of people wearing dentures - who looks younger, less wrinkled? Keep your own teeth regardless of the cost - get the dentist to prioritize what needs to be done and take care of it over the next few years - you will probably find that much of the work can be deferred for a while - but don't put it off too long as it will only get more expensive!

My understanding is that real teeth keep the jaw in line better. Dentures may mis-align the jaw. You will have to replace them as you age. But, if the real teeth are damaged, missing or bad due to illness or medicaiton... then dentures may an option. I know my husband has had issues with his teeth and I mentioned dentures and his dentist says fixing the real ones is much healther and better for you. Not a dentist or doctor so don't really know - just going on experience.

Your question is not clear. What is clear is that you have six healthy teeth in mouth. It is not clear how many teeth are missing and since when. Rest of the teeth are still there with unexplained problems in them, which if properly addressed you have been foretold expense of $11,000.

This amount is worth spending as your original teeth have still hope of getting restored. Simply throw out the thought of having dentures at 21. You would do well to ask your dentist to give you a priority wise treatment plan so that monetory burden does not take a heavy toll of your meeting other priorities in the family. May God bless you to smile your way through this phase.

i agree with Dr Sam 100%. there is no suitable replacement for the teeth you are born with. please do what you can to defer full dentures. get partial dentures to replace the teeth you are missing now, and get on a payment plan with your dentist and have these teeth treated properly. dentures are expensive too! and they require daily costs through items such as polydent, or by having them relined by your dentist every 3-6 months, or by having them remade every 1-4 years (which is a must). trust me, it may seem expensive now, but price the cost of dentures over the next 60 years, and i bet you they will cost you more in the long run. don't forget, you still would have to pay your dentist to remove the 6 teeth you already have! that costs money too! just have the teeth you have fixed, and get a partial. take care!

You are too young to get dentures. These are for people that have all bad teeth and they can't be saved. I know your treatment will cost too much for you but can you find financing? Ask your office if they have any finance companies for dental work, sometimes some offices work with CareCredit or Capital One. Maybe you can have that major work done first that u can afford. It will be a shame if u have all your teeth taken out because it is less expensive for you, try to find an office that can help u get financing so u can pay in payments.

If you need dentures you should get them, but if there's nothing wrong with your teeth and you just think they'd look better than your real teeth, then no. I've heard that dentures don't always fit like they should and can really be a pain, literally and figuratively.

May I assume that you are asking about full dentures, top and bottom?

Dentures are a suitable replacement for having NO teeth. They are not a suitable replacement for teeth. They are only about 20%as efficient at chewing as real teeth.

I don't know what issues you are facign at age 21, but if it is at all possible to avoid or delay getting dentures at this age, please do it!
