You can join the Air Force with glasses and/or contacts. Once in, you also have the option of getting Lasik surgery to correct your vision if you are a good candidate. Medical covers the cost of the surgery, but the waiting list is about a year. The military will not cover the cost of contacts. They give you military issued glasses, they look just like civilian ones, except for the bc's. in boot camp. Air Force is deployed to Iraq, but they are there the shortest amount of time, I believe 4-6 months is the longest deployment. Army is averaging about a year deployment with a "guarenteed" year off between deployments. if your vision is really bad, you can't be a pilot, but there are alot of other MOSs that you could do with glasses or contacts. Your best bet is to talk to an Air Force recruiter.

I'm in the Air Force right now and I can say its not bad. I'm still in training so I can't say much about the "real' Air Force but....The deployment rate is going way up for the AF but you will likely be deployed in any branch of the military except the navy, but its the Navy and they live on boats. Kind of like constant deployment. Talk to people and find out whats best for you.

The Air Force has a sight requirement. The most strict is for pilots. The Air Force helps from the Air, Navy from the water and the Marines and Army from the ground. Pick which is best for you but I suggest check each one out well. Write you likes and dislikes and weight the options.
Here is what to look at:
Air force is slower in moving up in rank and pay
Army is faster.
Air Force treats its soldiers better (food, lodging etc) they get the most governement money.
Air Force wants you to continue your education and some requirements are in place to move up.
Army is more lax with this.
Air Force only goes to was when air strikes are necessary or for other reasons related to Air patrol. They were in Iraq and some are there now just not as much as Army or Marines.
Army and Marines fight on the ground (they do have air crews in helecopters too). They can be in direct combat.
Marines are first ones in and last ones out. They are the foot soldiers a proud bunch.
Marines and Army are at most risk during war.
Keep in mind that many have sign up bonuses. Find out what they are for each branch, talk to recruiters (but dont sign anything, please think before you sign). Some will also pay for college or education.
You will take a ASVAB test and physical exams. Both medical and physical testing. The Air Force is the strictest. If you are overweight according to their charts they will send you home. Find out what the requirements for weight and the PT testing is and see if you can get ready for it (running, sit ups, stretch, etc).
Come and serve your country. Pick the one that is right for you.

i've got been retired from the Air rigidity for 9 years now. I spent the final 10 years as an AF Recruiter. i'm able to't keep in mind that a 6 year enlistment determination replaced into accessible for each individual. there are particular occupation fields which will require various coaching and the AF will attempt to recoop the funds spent on that training with you working for them for a 6 year era or enlistment. With the conflict happening, the AF might have stepped up their incentive courses to incorporate offering 6 year enlistment to extra occupation fields and offering extra $ bonuses. With that determination, the only element it would supply you is extra rank which equates to $. In a record that I even have in basic terms study: historic documents and traits point out 6-year enlistees have a extra advantageous propensity to reenlist upon final touch of their preliminary term of enlistment. That pronounced, the AF must be utilising the 6 year enlistment to further advance it incredibly is already severe retention expenses.

To answer your questions, yes we are in Iraq and Afghanistan, and yes you can join if you wear contact/glasses.
We have several bases in Iraq right now (Balad, and Kirkuk to name some.) and we will remain until told to withdraw.
There are a lot of people in the Air Force that wear glasses/contacts. If we only allowed the people with perfect vision in the Air Force we would be severely understaffed right now.

You can still be in the Air Force if you have contacts/glasses, but you can't be a flyer.
My hubby is a fighter pilot in the AF and he has been to Iraq. However, the AF is usually pretty safe over there. I think fatality rates are something like Marines, then Army, then Navy, then AF, then Coast Guard.

There are Air Force in Iraq. There are some that engage in combat as much as the Army and Marines. The Air Force takes better care of their Airmen, than the other branches (in my opinion. There are more people in the Air Force and the Navy that are better able to use their training and experience in civilian jobs than the Army and Marines, by what I have observed in 23 years in the Army.

First, Yes the USAF is Deployed to Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait, Korea DMZ, Germany, Saudi Arabia, and many more. That's how most of our troops got there, by the Air Force and Navy. See your local recruiter, he / she will be able to give you the most accurate info. And yes you can join the military if you wear glasses/contacts. As long as your vision is corrected to 20/20.

Air Force is Deployed constantly. Are you looking to fight? If you're looking to be a proud military person, don't join the Air Force right now... Go Army. I'm in the USAF and I can tell you, they are cutting 40,000 Airmen.
Currently they care more about how pretty your uniform looks, or how good your PT scores are. Honestly, it's an insult... I'm counting the days until I get out, I'm tired of working 12 hours a day 6 days a week at home and 16 hours a day 6 days a week deployed, only to be betrayed by the Senior NCO's and the current administration.
Before you think badly of me, I won Sharp Troop Award 3 times this year and have a 96% PT score. I just think it's gay and humiliating.
