I installed a jasper engine in my 86 broncoll about 60k miles ago and after it has set for 3 months I started it right up let it warm up then after I started down the road the lifters started rattling and I had no oil pressure so I shut it off let it set then started it up and headed back home it starts fine witl oil pressure than after you rev it , it starts to lower then it goes back up but not as high then rev it again and it lowers as you rev than goes back up until it progressively gets to low to fill the lifters. i think it is something to do with the oil pump but these engines are such a bear to pull out I wanted to get some advice before I pull it out,,l any thoughts? thanks

Yes I did check oil before I attempted to start it, And my records show that there was 2000 miles on the oil in the engine since then I have changed the oil and filter and it hasn't made any difference. At times you can hear what sounds like a clicking noise under the truck which I think may be from the oil pump, I have pulled the dist. in hopes that I could see the oil pump shaft may be stripped or damaged but couldnt tell and I can't pull the shaft out. I pulled the valve covers to see if the oil return holes and vally were blocked but they looked good. I kinds figured it might be a oil pick up screen but before I went through the trouble of pulling the engine I wanted to get any ideas that may be out there. thanks for your input!

Have you hit the oil pan on a rock and smashed it up a little bit? If the pan is too close to the pickup tube then you could lose oil flow to the pickup.

Don't sound like no oil pump problem from here. "It sat for 3 mpnths and I startedit right up" Did you bother to check the oil before you started it ?? Did you check the oil when it started rattling ?? I would guess after sitting all that time there may be water in the oil or the oil has drained from all the bearings, mains , camshaft, and when you stsrted it there was no lubrication for a few seconds, thats all it takes. Also did you rev the engine when it first started ?? An engine that has sat that long should be cranked with the starter for several seconds before allowing it to start. Pull the coil wire.

the oil pump screen is blocked, change it and the oil pump at the same time.
