Most athletic booster clubs do, indeed, have 501(c)(3) status. however, if the contribution gives the contributor priority rights to seating at sports events, only 80% of the contribution is deductible.

I usually agree with Judy but not this time.

Contributions to governmental units, such as public schools or public libraries, are tax deductible. The question really is "does the athletic booster club qualify as a governmental unit since it's associated with a public school". I say ask the athletic booster club.

PS. I was referring to high school booster clubs. College clubs probably are 501(c)(3)'s.

Only if they have 501c(3) certification, which they very likely do not.
