but I want to get the best possible deal I can. I don't want options or luxuries. The only thing I want is auto transmission, but it seems they are trying to charge about $1,000 for that(!), compared to the manual. Anyone know any method that I can cut a better deal on my car since I will pay cash up front? Or is that actually a handicap? I have been told different things. Please advise if you can help. Thanks.

Unfortunately for you the Yaris is selling for full price right now. In California there is a $500 markup on most Yaris'

If you can wait until January 2007 you may have some bargaining room. Paying the vehicle in cash is always an advantage. You will have more say in what goes on with the deal.

I would suggest looking at Edmunds.com and look for TMV (True Market Value).

Or go to www.carsdirect.com

Carsdirect can tell you what the average transaction price of the car is and what most people are paying for it.

Hope that helped and good luck!

My suggestion is to not pay cash up front but to let the dealer handle the financing (they usually give a better deal on the purchase of the car) and after you take delivery, go home and the next day, call the finance company for the balance due, and pay off the loan in full. Another way to save is wait till someone else purchases a new Yaris, doesn't like the car and turns the car in on a bigger Toyota and you buy this car from the dealer or to purchase a dealers Yaris demo. Checking with automobile new car price service like Consumer Reports at 1-800-693-9602 can also be a help.

paying cash for a vehicle is only a handicapp if you were to invest the money at a higher interest rate than you could obtain the loan for with a zero down payment. (Making a spread). If your not the investing type than paying for cash at the dealership will make you king. It sounds like you have research the cars price well and you probably have a good idea of what the dealership paid for the car. Edmunds.com has an excellent article on how to bargain when buying a new vehicle.

My suggestion is to start at what the dealer bought the car for. Settle on a price that is not any higher than $1500 higher thatn what the dealer probably bought the car for. I would then tell them what kind of deal would they be willing to give me if I paid today in cash? Be prepared to walk away if they are not willing to budge. Good Luck.
