Mayor Barletta speaking to the Pennsylvania Press Club. He was wonderful. He is very articulate, smooth, and handsome, not a small-town redneck as he has been portrayed in the media
Here are some of the things Hazleton has had to put up with the last 5 years as thousands of illegals have moved in there:

-- A school playground, on which the mayor played as a child, has been sprayed with gang graffiti and become the scene of multiple shootings and drug busts - all involving illegals. One drug dealer who turned out to be illegal was 14 years old and had four Social Security cards on him when he was arrested.

-- Two murders have occurred in the last year - in a town where there used to be only one murder every 6-7 years - both involving illegals. In one case, four police officers spent 36 hours straight tracking down the killer and arresting him. That is dozens of hours of police overtime.

-- The town's budget for police overtime was exhausted in JUNE this year.

-- In 2000, the town had three ESL teachers with a budget of $500. In 2006, the town has 26 ESL teachers with a budget of $875,000.

-- The violent MS-13 gang has been established in the town and gang graffiti is showing up.

-- Code enforcement officers routinely find 9-10 illegals living in a one-bedroom apartment, with no furniture and mattresses on the floor.

-- The town is now in the red again after Mayor Barletta had cut spending to the bone to balance the town's books. Police overtime is a huge part of the deficit. Hazleton only has 30 officers to police a town of 30,000.

This poor guy had simply had enough. He had old ladies coming up to him on the street telling him they were prisoners in their own homes. He had business owners telling him they were leaving town because they were afraid for their families' safety.

"Dallas Texas city council is discussing doing this too. They've said the public is pressuring them to. I hope they do, then maybe several other Texas towns/cities will have the guts to also. Although, probably not Austin."

Since the problem is nationwide, I think it is up to each of us to put pressure on our community leaders to do this. Family just returned from 'small town' in KY and they've become overrun with them. Eventually the illegals will have no where but the sanctuary cities to flock to and hopefully those cities will be taken care of with RICO prosecutions.

I do fully know and understand what he is saying. Quality of life. I know that doesn't mean alot to those who have had a good quality of life. It means alot for those of us who fought for it. I don't blame for an instant those that came here wanting that. Can you imagine living like that? I can't. I don't want to know that. The problem is "that" is "NORMAL" to them. It is not to me!!!!! I don't want to live like friggin animals. I don't want to HAVE to crap on my front porch and make that OK. It is NOT OK to me!!!!!!!!!!@!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think many towns and cities should adopt Hazeltons new laws. If only our federal gov. would take a stand like Mayor Barletta, we might actually be able to get a hold on the situation.
$875,000.00 Just for some friggin ESL teachers?? For a small town that is a huge sum!! Wonder how much was spent for Medical care??? Would like to see the figures for that.
I don't blame this Mayor or the towns people, they are only taking back what is theirs. Letting the criminals know that they are not wanted there, and honestly why would anyone want to live where you are totally NOT wanted?? Makes no sense to me.

I think so many people miss the point on illegal immigration. The term "illegal" should be obvious enough; however, to most it seems not to be. Whether you are from Mexico, China, the Bahamas, Canada, or Spain; if you do NOT have proper papers to be in America LEGALLY; you are an ILlegal alien! We are not attacking a race or ethnic background. It has NOTHING to do with the race of the illegal immigrants; it's about them being here, taking OUR tax money to get things for FREE; without paying a dime into OUR system. I am all for people coming here to persue their dreams, EVERY SINGLE American (except American Indians) has ancestors that persued that VERY SAME dream. The BIG difference is, 99% of them did it LEGALLY. And when they came here, they learned ENGLISH; b/c that is what WE speak HERE. I would not take up residence in Germany and EXPECT or DEMAND everything to be written in English. I'd expect to find everything written and spoken in GERMAN. It really IS THAT simple. It's called RESPECT. The people who come here demanding how "prejudice" it is for things not to be in THEIR language are selfish!

All the ones speaking out about how unfair and prejudice it is for OUR country to not want illegal aliens here STEALING from us are missing those very basic, very EASY to understand issues. If they can not grasp that, too bad. How much more simple can it be?

This issue hits close to home for me, b/c I feel my disabled daughter would get more equipment for her special needs if Medical Assistance wasn't picking up the tab for all of the ILLEGAL aliens here. I am a tax paying citizen, and MY needs should come LONG before an immigrant who is not here legally. I've paid into MY system since I began working at 14 years of age. That's 16 YEARS of my life; MORE than half. These people come here and just get stuff handed to them! Not only haven't they BEEN paying, but they continue NOT to pay.

I could go on forever....

I hope Hazleton PA gets things back to the way they want.

I have noticed the past two weeks, a "flooding" of people who are obviously not here legally.
I mean no one any offense. I live in an area that's too cold in the winter, definitely English speaking people, and yes, almost entirely white.
I have also noticed that we have become home to a white supremacy group.
"Heaven help us all."

I will do everything I can to protect those that are new to this area, but they should have come here legally.

I love Barletta. He should be commended for doing something, which is more than I can say for most politicians.

Illegals are ruining this town too. A police officer told me that they would have much easier jobs if it weren't for the illegal Mexicans here.

Good post.

I have been to Hazelton. It was closed. No, seriously, I would have felt better about the Honorable Mayor clamping down on crime period. I have a problem with him identifying a particular segment of the population and branding them in such a villifying manner. So he has a gang problem, a bunch of little crips running around, or latinos with baggy pants and bandanas on their heads? Shoot, just look at any city, large or small, anywhere in America and you will find the same thing. It will pass just as tye-dyed shirts, long hair, and platform shoes did. There has been youth related crime all over the world since hunter-gatherers started grouping together and farming. I suspect if we native born citizens of this great country adopted a new more compassionate attitude towards the so-called illegals we would find that crime associated with this group would simply disappear.

So, if the good Mayor wants to go on TV and make political capitol out of oppressing the less fortunates of his city then he should really dress for the occaision, swastika arm band and all.

Thank you for this information, I have been curious as to what is happening in Hazelton.

Also, something I am curious about, What ever happened with the Italian restaraunt owner who had the sign, " This is America, please order in english." The last I heard he was facing heat from some LULAC group threatening to sue.

I can't understand why this is totally over-looked by the government. If that is going on in what use to be a small town... then just imagine what has happened in the big cities. The majority (American citizens) are fed up with it all!!!

I Only Hope ALOT More towns follow Hazletons policy. Enough is Enough allready. What they have done should be our National policy on Illegals.
