Be not deceived! You cannot earn your way to heaven by good deeds or by being a "good person". You might be a good person according to men's standards, but how about God's holy standards?
Our works (own righteousness) are as filthly rags in the sight of God.
"All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God." (Romans 3:23)

Man will be held accountable to God for their sins. All will be judged, including Christians. (Although they are separate judgements.)

The ten commandments reflects our true sin nature. Without law there is no transgression. Have you ever lied? Have you ever lusted after someone or someones stuff? Have you always put God above all other things? Have you ever stolen anything (value is insignificant)? Have you ever used God's name as a cussword?

If God judged you by the ten commandments on judgement day would you be innocent or guilty?
Join the crowd, we are all guilty, except Jesus, who was born of God to be a perfect sacrifice for us. Jesus took your sin and my sin upon himself and suffered God's righteous judgement so that you and I wouldn't have to if we trust in him.
"For by grace we are saved through faith; and not of yourselves: it is the gift of God, NOT of works, that no man should glory" (in earning his own salvation.)
(Eph 2:8-9)
God loves us unconditionally, despite our sinfulness. (John 3:16) Because of His great love for us, God, while remaining true to His perfect justice, made a way for us to be free from our sin. (Romans 3:23-27)

This is why Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life; no man comes to the Father, but by me." (John 14:6)

The Truth is that there is no other name under heaven where you can be saved. "The wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ." (Romans 7:21)

Trust in Jesus as your Lord and saviour, repent (turn from) your sins, profess with your mouth and believe in your heart that Jesus died, was buried, and that God raised him from the dead and you shall be saved. Read and study the Bible daily and follow the teachings.

God loves us so much that he created us to be able to choose whether we will accept or reject him. He did not make us robots. He has set before us life and death, choose life.
I pray that you discover the truth before it is too late! I hope someone benefits from this answer. Yes, it is narrow thinking. Jesus said "Enter in at the straight gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leads to destruction, and there will be many that go in that way. Because straight is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leads to life, there will be few who find it." (Matthew 7:13-14) Jesus is the narrow way!

When you die, that's it! Nothing. At the time of death most people are comatose as the organs shut down one by one. Your senses start to fail with smell, taste, touch and sight going first and hearing last. It is estimated that hearing continues for about four minutes after clinical death so it would be possible to still hear what was going on after death. However as lack of oxygen to the brain would cause brain damage giving the feeling of insanity after about two minutes you wouldn't understand what was being said anyway. The concept of life after death was invented to reassure ourselves that we can still exist after death and thus not be afraid of it. It is also a tool to recruit people into various religions with promises that after death there will be some sort of heaven or paradise awaiting us. As we are only animals like any other, but of higher intelligence, it is hard to imagine that every living thing that preceded us would, somehow, be crammed into heaven. Anyway, who would want to go there? It'll be full of catholics!

Dear Roxanna,

I don't really know. The Bible tells us that life on this earth is not all there is. I do believe that the decision we make on this earth about Jesus Christ will determine whether we abide in eternal light with God or in eternal darkness separate from God.

I read a very interesting book by C.S. Lewis which gave a very interesting picture of what it might be like.

There has been a determination made that a small part of body weight leaves the body when a deceased one departs this world. It is not fluid and air has no weight. It is measurable and puzzles the doctors. According to a new film, we lose 21 grams at the moment of death. Ian Sample looks for the truth...

Asking this question doesn't make you "gothic"...I'm not sure why you referenced that. Being gothic doesn't mean you aren't a Christian either. The answer to your question is if you have accepted Jesus Christ as your Savior and have asked for forgiveness for your sins, then I'll see you in heaven. Otherwise, you will go to hell.

You're soul is taken out of your body by angels. Depending on if you are destined for hell or heaven, you are shown both places. Then you are put into your grave and it becomes either a place of torture or a place of pleasure. Finally, all of humanity is resurrected to stand before God on the Day of Judgment. From there, you go to paradise or hellfire for eternity. Some will enter hellfire for sometime (could be thousands or millions of years) then removed and put into paradise. One must believe in One God to qualify for paradise. Some will be in a higher paradise where they will be able to see God all the time... that is the ultimate victory and pleasure. This is from Islamic teachings.

Jesus Christ spoke about the condition of the dead. He did so with regard to Lazarus, a man whom he knew well and who had died. Jesus told his disciples: “Lazarus our friend has gone to rest.” The disciples thought that Jesus meant that Lazarus was resting in sleep, recovering from an illness. They were wrong. Jesus explained: “Lazarus has died.” (John 11:11-14) Notice that Jesus compared death to rest and sleep. Lazarus was neither in heaven nor in a burning hell. He was not meeting angels or ancestors. Lazarus was not being reborn as another human. He was at rest in death, as though in a deep sleep without dreams. Other scriptures also compare death to sleep. For example, when the disciple Stephen was stoned to death, the Bible says that he “fell asleep.” (Acts 7:60) Similarly, the apostle Paul wrote about some in his day who had “fallen asleep” in death. 1 Corinthians 15:6.

The Bible teaches that the dead “are conscious of nothing at all.” They are not alive and have no conscious existence anywhere. The account of Lazarus confirms this. Upon returning to life, did Lazarus thrill people with descriptions of heaven? Or did he terrify them with horrible tales about a burning hell? No. The Bible contains no such words from Lazarus. During the four days that he was dead, he had been “conscious of nothing at all.” (Ecclesiastes 9:5) Lazarus had simply been sleeping in death. John 11:11.
The account of Lazarus also teaches us that the resurrection is a reality, not a mere myth. Jesus raised Lazarus in front of a crowd of eyewitnesses. Even the religious leaders, who hated Jesus, did not deny this miracle.

Think about this too: If Lazarus had been in heaven for those four days, would he not have said something about it?— And if he had been in heaven, would Jesus have made him come back to earth from that wonderful place? Of course not!

Yet, many people say that we have a soul, and they say that the soul lives on after the body dies. They say that Lazarus’ soul was alive somewhere. But the Bible does not say that. It says that God made the first man Adam “a living soul.” Gen. 2:7, Adam was a soul. The Bible also says that when Adam sinned, he died. He became a “dead soul,” and he returned to the dust from which he had been made. The Bible also says that all Adam’s offspring inherited sin and death too.

The Scriptural teaching of the resurrection, however, is not compatible with the doctrine of the immortality of the soul. If an immortal soul survived death, no one would need to be resurrected, or brought back to life. Indeed, Martha expressed no thought about an immortal soul that was living on elsewhere after death. She did not believe that Lazarus had already gone to some spirit realm to continue his existence. On the contrary, she showed her faith in God’s purpose to reverse the effects of death. She said: “I know he will rise in the resurrection on the last day.” (John 11:23, 24) Likewise, Lazarus himself related no experiences of some afterlife. There was nothing to report.

Clearly, according to the Bible, the soul dies and the remedy for death is the resurrection. You enjoy the best sleep ever, until Jesus resurrects you, sometime in the future.

There is no death, just a change in focus.

It is similar to waking from a dream, maybe one in which you left home; but when you awaken, you see that you never left...you are still safe at home.

The truth of you is so much greater than the world tries to teach you.

Death is the end of your conscious existence. After you die, your body will decompose and slowly return to the earth to be recycled by the plants and organisms lower on the food chain.

The Bible says that you lose all consciousness as in a deep sleep without dreams until you are resurrected by Jesus. When you awaken, you will not even be conscious that time has passed and you will be perfectly healthy and young.
