I think it all depends on how well off each one is financially to start with and how much they will contribute to the economy with regard to income tax and so on and so forth.
Secondly it depends on their education and qualifications and what the UK is short of in the academic world at that particular time. If for arguments a brain surgeon wanted to come and live here he would get priority over say an ordinary doctor and in turn a doctor would get priority over a nurse.
Finally we come to the bottom end of the scale as far as the government are concerned and in this group we have all the manual labourers as well as semi skilled people and these are judged on what amount of money they have in their bank accounts.
That is the theory of how it is worked out but whether or not it works in reality only God can tell. I believe that these people see how easy it is for the British people to get money for doing nothing or next to nothing that they adopt the western way of life very, very quickly./

There is no control whatsoever, they just turn up and get directed to Croydon where they get all their hand outs. As the country is now a dictatorship, we have no say in it. But it does beg the question as to why everybody from all over the world wants to live here , except the native born population, who would like to get out of the hell hole, but can't afford to.
Edit: Why is it no surprise that immigrants support the government on this question ?

The UK doesn't decide a number of immigrants, no more than it decides how many people can leave each year. People moan about all the foreigners in UK, but how many Brits are living in Spain, France, States, wherever?
Someone wrote above that Britain was only made for 35 million people. Check the census records, we had that many people 140 years ago. Someone else wrote that we live in a dictatorship - believe me, I'm no fan of Blair, our democracy's got lots of shortcomings, but try life under a real dictator to see the difference.
Most immigrants come here to work, or to join husbands and wives that are able to support them. Asylum-seekers come here to escape from real dictators - those that try it on get fairly short shrift. If they're refused asylum, they are cut off from benefits and not allowed to work, if they're accepted they have the same right to work or benefits as anyone else.

Britain needs so many immigrants per year to support its economy. It is based on predicted growth and growth targets. I guess they also factor into the equation the number of lazy British people that couldn't be arsed to get up off their fat asses and do a days work but would rather sponge off the dole and then complain about all the immigrants taking their jobs - jobs that they wouldn't bother doing in the first place.

Unless you are about twelve years old, I am assuming that this is a bit of a wind up. The very idea that the government is controlling immigration, or wants to, is laughable.
KCL30 needs to understand, that, allowing unfettered immigration is the best way to keep lazy Brits. sitting on their backsides, particularly if you pay them benefits. That is not an answer, it is the result of other failed policies.

England, (Mr Tony '**** the rest of you' Blair), decides how many immigrants can come to the UK (we do also include Scotland, Wales and N Ireland in the UK), depending on who's **** he is sucking up to at that specific time. As long as the do-gooders in this poxy society we have at present are pacified, Blair will allow as many as possible to come in and destroy this once proud and beautiful country!!!!

It all depends on how much money the government needs. The British government receive money for every immigrant that enters the country. Why do you think they get so fed up with the illegal immigrants? If they are illegal then they get no money for them.

England does not decide the government does, they want cheap labour so they can benefit of our Taxes.
The UK is an Island and it was only meant to hold 35million inhabitants...the population is twice that.
