how come I hear sometimes about some kids torturing cats (which I think is terrible) but I never hear the same about dogs,(not that I want dogs to be mistreated either). But why are cats more victimized.

Cats are smaller.
Dogs do get treated cruelly by these little ******** brats! I have seen these walking ad's for birth control throw sticks and rocks at dogs. I saw one little heathen throw food away that someone JUST put out for a poor old doggy who was so hungry! He scared the dog away then chucked his food out! The dog was whining and trying to lick food up off of a dirt/grass/rocky patch of ground! It was small kibbles! I FLIPPED! I chased the kid home and told his mother what happened, threatened to call the cops on her and her kid for animal abuse and made her give me $$ to buy the doggy more food. I took the doggy home and got him into a doggy no kill shelter 2 days later. Thank God.
There are so many homeless cats in my neighborhood. My 2 cats are ones I found on the street infront of my house.
I feed strays in the back yard. I constructed a makeshift bed/shelter for a cat or two when the weather is bad. They are strays so they don't come near me. But I do what I can to make life a little nicer for them. I get so sad when I see people mistreat animals.
Even not fixing them is abuse.
Spay/neutering can be pricey. There are places that have low cost/ low income services. People need to care enough to find them though.
Older people from other countries think it is stupid and a waste of money to fix a cat/dog and vaccinate them. They grew up in a different era than us. They had no money for "frivilous" things like a pets medical care. I have asked a few people from other places why they don't fix/vaccinate their pets and that is the answer I got. Makes sense in a way. If your in a 3rd world country struggling there is no money at all. Especially to give a cat a shot for a cat flu. The dogs and cats served purposes to the people.
Others can't afford it. Others don't care to do it. It does not bother them if their boy kitty goes into another neighborhood and knocks up 3 cats that produce 13-20 kittens. The cycle continues on and on.
I have seen cat colonys with up to 100 cats/kittens in them. Alot of the animals were so sick. They had to be put to sleep. All because ONE person did not want to fix ONE cat. Boy OR girl.
It does not matter. Fix your pets people!
There are alot of reasons why people abuse/bully helpless animals. The same people even abuse/bully kids/people smaller than them. I don't care about why they are psychologically scarred. I had a rough life too. I don't abuse people and animals because my mommy left me when I was a baby or because I had to wear pink when I wanted to wear purple. Which are true examples btw. They both happened to me.
Lets hope these kids are not the ones caring for us older people when we are old and helpless.

:-( It seems that more people delight in terrorizes these poor, innocent creatures. Cats have a background going back hundreds (thousands?) of years that place them as sacred animals, right down to the evil black cat of Halloween.
As a young girl, a boy at camp told me horror stories about what he had done to cats (while I had a dying kitty at home that I just adored), thinking he was impressing me. I never spoke to him again, but was too shy to tell him what a horrible person I thought he was.
Although in my opinion, cats are *more* abused than dogs ("man's best friend"), as a person who formed a doberman rescue squad years ago, they are also very abused.
At least the larger breeds of dogs can defend themselves (somewhat) from those terrible people. :-( I've seen some horribly neglected dogs....
But the REAL psychopaths torture the smaller furry friends (meaning cats) because they are so helpless to defend themselves.
I don't use the word "hate" often. But I TRULY hate those that torture, abuse and neglect innocent animals. Help save a life & volunteer at a no kill shelter....

Because dogs are bigger than cats and sometimes when they feel threatened they bite while the cats who are smaller are easily tortured especially by kids who feel superior to a weaker being . In third world countries kittens are thrown in the garbage after being tortured and dogs are abused and tortured especially small ones.. It is horrible

Because some people are sick in the head. If a kid is torturing a cat or any animal, I blame the parents as much or more than the kid.

Dogs are alot harder to "beat up" ALOT more strength then a cat, powerful jaws...(every seen what a pitbull has done? sure a cat can scratch pretty mean, but pitbulls WILL KILL YOU IF YOU GIVE THEM THE CHANCE) Cats are alot more of an easier target.

I dono. Call your local SPCA if you think there torturing the cats or the police station they will do something about it! Good luck with that and please do this, its just another life getting saved from a terrible life.

It must just be your sources. Cats are actually harder to abuse because they can get away easier(claw, climb trees). Cats are also harder to catch if they don't know you. I think it's one of the cruelest things there is to torture any animal.
