i would love to volenteer in helping people in whatever way they need, however i see that all internet site require that you pay quite alot of money.

Okay, what you can do is contact savedarfur.org and check out their site for ideas. I have done lots to bring awareness of the genocide there here to the U.S. also, you can write letters to COngress in support of our government helping out. Also, you can sponsor an organization invisiblechildren, inc. They will come out to your schools to present to the students and community members about what is happening in Uganda. COntact jabt@invisiblechildren.org for more information on this program. They do not charge to come to the schools, they are able to pay for this through grants and by selling their books and documentaries to people when they make a presentation.
Be an advocate if you can not afford to send money, pass on the word so those who can afford to pay are aware of the situations in Africa. In this way you do make a difference in the lives of others and in your own life.

Go help out in a bread line in any major city, that won't cost you anything but your time. But hat help is needed. There will be Africans need food there.
Everyone I know of who has gone to Africa to do volunteer work had to pay travel and expenses.

I cant imagine there will be any that would be prepared to pay for your travel, because it tends to be run by charities and organisations which prefer to spend the money on other thinngs than flights etc.
Why not try volunteer work in your local area?

We have many Africans that live among us. I don't mean African-Americans. Why don't you contact one of them and find out from him/her what the needs of his/her people are. Collarborate with him/her to do something to help his homeland. That will cost you little or nothing.

Voluntary Service Overseas used to be free (my brother was there for years) not sure if they are still free - also depends on your qualifications, quite fussy I think..

You can raise money for a trip. Try Earth Watch, they will help you with raising your money.
Also, some churches will send you.
