we see iraq: the violence is very bad, dozens die each day there. Afghanistan is becoming more violent, now bush is aiming the big gun at iran, do you think dubya will reinstate the draft in his last 2 years to combat the increasing violence, since the voulnteer army is stressed by the increased troop deployment. i hope it stays as a volunteer army, though that would be harder as many push for more troops in Iraq. I AM NOT wanting backlash, just opinions

No, I am enlisted and let me tell you he is actually CUTTING 40,000 Airmen. We are working longer and longer shifts, both deployed and at home... I know it doesn't make any sense.

We work 12 hours a day 6 days a week at home keeping the supply and extender jets refueled. Deployed we work 16 hours a day 6 days a week. Completely unsafe, but what is anyone going to do about it?

I wish I had been assigned to a non-essential base like my buddies from tech school.

Still,I try to take pride in what I do. I joined to serve my country. They never told me it'd be easy.

Charlie Rangel-D Rep from NY actually proposed bringing the Draft back. Democrats want the draft because they can stop the pay raises for the military that encourage a highly successful volunteer military. Under Clinton we had the worst pay in exchange to civilian salaries since before WWII.

There is no need for a draft. What we need are for more highly qualified youth to step forward and take the lead to gain military experience and become leaders of the future.

We just recruited 80, 000 in the Army this year alone. 40% of the current Army has never even been there. No, there is not going to be a draft. There are too many reasons why. #1 is nobody in the military wants the headache.

I wish someone would. Didn't they stop the draft because our military was pretty stable and we really didn't need it? Once you're in, they bug you and bug you to re-enlist. And then you'll probably get deployed again. Why can't they bring back the draft? I believe our military numbers' would be more stable.

Not while he's in office. They're going to try maintaining things way they are. It's possible things will get worse in future after Bush leaves office in which case GOP and president Bush will blame whoever is in charge. Clever plan really if you think about it, either way GOP can take credit for improvements or blame democrat for future problems.

He can't, he's not the king. Only congress can do that. Many Democrats favor bringing the draft back. No Republicans I know of favor it.

Regardless of the war in Iraq the draft should be re-enacted so men can get back to being men. What we have now are a bunch of pansy.
