My husband our painting our bedroom and are having terrible problems. It was a light blue and we have so far put three coats of Dutch Boy's Classic Red Satin on because we forgot the primer. We painted the edges and trim with a paint brush but used a roller on the rest. Now you can see the swipes of the paint brush and the edges are darker. We can't get it one solid color without seeing where the last roll of the roller was. We need some help badly. We both thought that you couldn't go wrong painting but we have been proven that it can be done. Does anyone have any ideas? Do we just need to keep adding more coats?

First of all RED is the hardest color to paint...usually needs several coats...the issue with seeing the brush marks tells me you are using a corse brush ...try a Purty...they average about $19.00 a brush but the results pay for it...the issue with the lines from rolling is that you are pressing too hard when rolling...gliding motions work better.......Haven't used Dutch Boys paint so I can't give you a comment on it...but is it watery or thicker...the thinker the paint the better ( and more costly ) iit is

Janet,Janet,Janet,Yes dear red is the hardest color to get to cover. You can continue to apply more coats of the red and it may never become a uniform color.Take a day off and recoup and set your minds to fix this and all the answers so far are incorrect. Here we go...go back to the fool that tinted the product to begin with and ask him or her to please provide you with a primer tinted to the color gray RECOMMENDED by Dutch Boy themselves. Not just any gray but the correct gray is absolutely critical for red to cover. And I would suggest that if you need more of the red that they comp you for their ERROR. Now go home and prime the walls with the primer and then 2 or 3 coats of the red will actually give you a fantastic uniform application. I remedy this problem for others in your very same situation frequently. And yes use a good brush(Purdy 2 1/2 in. Polyester/ Nylon. You can do it.

Peeling off the paint is impractical. One of the primary matters you have got to do isn't use the room for a couple of days in order that it dries out. The steam from the bathe is getting the wall and inflicting the paint and plaster to end up free and peel off. Once the room has had a hazard to dry out, take away the free and peeling paint and fill the ones places with a wall spackling compound. Let it dry and sand it tender. Then top the partitions with a well first-rate primer and paint with a well first-rate kitchen and bathtub paint. It may have better gloss conclude, making it a lot more proof against moisture than a silk/satin conclude paint.

At this point you've got nothing to lose by putting a coat of primer over what you've done so far, then repainting. It also sounds like you're rolling the paint out too thin (trying to make a roller of paint cover too large an area) if the roller marks are showing.

It is true what one answer stated that red is a hard color to apply...it took me 4 coats of application because of the "base" involved in using red color. You may have to put another coat on...and maybe another?...i sprayed red (2 coats)and still didn't cover well (rolled 2 more)....eventually it will cover. Don't primer it at this point, you will be back at the beginning!!!

they make special cut in brushes for this promlem they look like a regular brush but the head is a sponge materal that holds more paint to help w/coverage and it will not leave brush marks.
