I have been frozen today. So I am constantly telling my 6 year old to put on clothes. I told him that if he put on socks his feet wouldn't get as cold, and yet I"m the only one freezing! Why do we do this?

because we are all MOTHERS. From the time we deliver our children we now know that we are responsible for them and their well-being so we cover them, over-protect them, shield them, and do all the thing we think and believe is right (even though some people might think we are weird) But that is what we do.

We are MOTHERS!!!!!

our mothers did it , their mothers did it and the cycle with continue............................

The world would be a much better and safer place if all mothers accepted their roles and played it well.

Don't worry you are not alone.

Because when they're babies, they can't tell us if they're hot or cold until they get to the extremes of either and respond by screaming. So, we're taught to dress them similarly to how we're dressed...if we're in t-shirt and shorts, put the baby in t-shirt and shorts. If we're wearing long sleeves, a jacket, and socks indoors, put the baby in that.
Then, when they're toddlers/pre-schoolers, they'll STILL run outside in December in just their pajamas and slippers, so we run after them telling them to put on some real clothes, or at least a jacket.
Eventually, this habit becomes engrained, even when our children are perfectly capable of making semi-sensible decisions about whether they're cold or hot or just right.

BECAUSE when you were a new time mother the doctor said when you are cold your baby is cold. Children also deny when they are cold just because they don't like putting on extra clothes because it's extra work.

LOL! I don't do that anymore because I have finally realized that I am the only one who's cold. I guess if we ran around like our 6 year olds do we wouldn't be so cold, huh?

I've been confronted with the same question before. I say that we do not only do that to our children, we do that to others around us as well. I don't know why.
I do know that it is not cold air, bare feet, exposed chest, or a wet head that makes a person sick. What makes a person sick is germs, viruses, and bacteria.

Lol, I do this to my seven year all the time...I get the same answer, 'but Mum, I'm HOT', I have to learn to trust that he is the best judge of weather or not he is cold, in the meantime I get cold just looking at him.

well having socks on do warm up ur body, but they say when u first have ur kids, put as little or as much clothes as ur wearing so they are comfortable, so we just want to make sure they are not as cold as we are, i do the same thing.

It a mothers instinct to look out for whats best for our children. I do the same to my children as well as my husband. I know its weird but it just comes natural I guess.
