If your not use to flying the take off and the landing will be probably the scariest part, but honestly I enjoy the take off to no end!! It is so much fun when the plane starts gathering speed on the run way, and then suddenly lifts! It really is neat! If you know about these things, then you will not fear it as much. Also sometimes in the air you will feel a little turbulence, but that is also normal, its nothing to worry about. And the landing sometimes is a little bumpy when you hit the ground on the landing, but all pilots do it different. My Mom, was always afraid to fly her whole life, and I finally had to get her on a plane from Pittsburgh, to San Antonio, and do you know she actually enjoyed it because I tried to explain everything, and told her there was nothing to worry about! She even wanted to look out the window, and were talking about an 83 year old woman, that was petrified of flying! You will be fine, so don't worry!! Enjoy your flight!

It wasn't scary for me the first time, but I was eleven. I've only flown a few times and it was always exhilarating. The only real action there is, is at takeoff and landing. In between, you might get a chance to look out the window and watch scenery change. The windows aren't crystal clear, they're usually scratched up a bit. But it's still a thrill to look down from that altitude. There may be a bit of turbulence and you might be told to belt yourself in. It's a good idea if you belt yourself in for the whole trip just in case. Then you can lay your head back and doze off and not worry a bit, because it gets as boring as riding a bus. Take some Dramamine before you go just in case, because some people experience motion sickness. I seldom fly, so I look at it as a rare treat. I was down from Pennsylvania to New Mexico for a wedding, back a week later. On the trip back, I could see the sky turn from a crystal clear horizon to hazy as we entered the eastern forest region. That's the sort of thing you notice from up there. If you get a window seat, bring a camera. Bring binoculars. Enjoy. But bring a book or something else to occupy your time, too. And bring a good box lunch if you're going to be up there a while. And a bottle or two of water. You get dry.

Not frightening at all, just new and different.
You'll be fairly crowded on most flights these days, which really isn't too big a deal. Lots of noises and vibrations on takeoff, shortly thereafter. Things like flaps retracting, landing gear being stowed, some fair amount of force pushing you back into the seat. More impressive than anything else. Make sure you get a window seat, and have a decent day, so you can watch the ground pull away from you at a surprising rate.
On final approach, pretty much a reversal of the takeoff. Flaps being set, landing gear being deployed, a little sink right at the bottom as ground effect takes hold, then a "greaser" of a landing. Pretty boring, usually.
This time of year, turbulence should be minimal.

The flying itself is no problem. Prepare yourself for two things: many many bizarre noises as the plane is starting, taxiing, taking off and landing. The second, and most difficult, is the arrogant attitude of the security people. Do not argue, debate or even hesitate to do what they tell you. Console yourself with the knowledge that they are only federal employees and can't get a real job.
Afterthought: yes, the wings DO flex a lot. They are supposed to do that.
Another afterthought: minimize how much you bring on the plane. Contrary to popular belief, checking luggage doesn't brand you as some sort of rookie. I always check everything, except for a paperback book. Many times I've been able to skirt the long security lines and go through the attendant's check line.
If either you or your boyfriend are over 6 foot, and you're flying on a 757, yes- the seats are tight and cramped. Sorry about that.

I am sure you will be fine! Flying is a great experience and most people that fly aren't actually scared of the flying part its being in an enclosed space. I may be a little biased to the situation as I had my first ride on an airline when I was six months old and then my first ride in a small private plane when I was two years old. I actually feel safer in a an aircraft then in a car!!! Have fun on your trip!

Just don't freak yourself out ahead of time. I recently had my first flight, I'm 20, and it was from DC to London, so the over the ocean thing scared me a little. But just bring a book or something to take your mind off the fact that you have nothing but thousands of feet between you and the ground. And if you are adventurous, get window seat. Also, if you get a flight around sunset or sundown you're in for a treat. I got to see sunset around Greenland and it was the most amazing thing to see when you are above the clouds. Anyway, you'll love it. It's a bit shaky. hah.

Its not scary at all its fun i suggest u go on southwest and leave 2 hours before your flight Ive been on hundreds of planes its fine i suggest you also go to the bathroom because the airplane bathrooms are horrible. The only bad experience about mine is when i went to the middle east my flight go delayed for 8 hours or so because of engine problems but its okay and get isle or window middle sucks and be nice to the security people and dont argue whatever they tell you

In usual piloting a helicopter is extra elaborate than piloting an plane. The nature of an plane is to fly nevertheless a helicopter is way more risky and calls for extra pilot enter to function. However helicopters fly alot slower than airplanes. No topic what you will have to opt for it.

It's like a gentle rollercoaster.
Go in with the mindset that it's a thrill... to see the speed you take off at, see the ground pull away from you, it's quite amazing. I've got hundreds of flights under my belt, and I still look out the window (when I'm awake) to watch the takeoff... it's amazing.
Weeeeeeeeeeee!

It does feel kind of weird the first time, but once I got over that, it was fun! Now I love to fly!
P.S. Try to get the window seat...looking down at the patchwork fields and loopy rivers is SO COOL!!!
