Someone asked (joking I assume) why we don't send Chuck Norris to Iraq, and people actually responded thinking he would do better than our military!
Do people really think that a fictional character like "Walker, Texas Ranger" would stand a chance against trained killers?
Even when Chuck Norris was the "World" Karate Champion ages ago, do you think that's the same skills needed at all to survive being deployed in a war zone?
Seriously, do you people think Movies are real?

Someone said, "you're taking it too seriously." I happen to be enlisted, and I'm going back again on deployment in January. How can I treat it like a joke?

I'm willing to bet Chuck Norris wouldn't think it was funny either.

Sad...no; pathetic isn't? My guess is that only those who have never served in the military or operated in a war zone hold arrested visions.
Having served and operated in a war environment, Chuck would be of no great use...we prefer to destroy the enemy at a distance when possible.
Now Rambo.......

Funny but the only real true "war hero" who served in a war and portrayed serving in a war is the one with an award [for enlisted personnel E4 or below] named after him: Audie Murphy. And, he always claimed he wasn't a hero, he was just doing his job--just like any other person the general populace has labeled a hero.
About the best line in a movie I ever heard was the one in Blackhawk Down where the Delta guy says,[I am really paraphrasing here...]"It's not about policies or winning or losing, it's about the guy next to you. That's all that matters."
So, all the action stars would be laughable to watch when they try and deal with situations in a truly hostile combat theater.
But, sadly, the general populace cannot apparently discern between reality: war; and fiction: pathetic movies.
And, not to take Jim G's wind out of his sails, yes pathetic whiny assed cowards CAN elect not to go to a combat theater: they only have to plead "conscientious objector." A guy I went through AIT did this when our respective units got activated for Desert Sheild/Storm. The day he told me he elected this option is the last day I ever talked to him. Hopefully, he's proud that even though he signed the dotted line of his own volition, he honored his promise to his country by sitting all cozy stateside doing not a whole bunch more than turning oxygen into carbon dioxide--oh and collecting the general populace's tax dollars as payment.

I have had people tell me how wonderful and brave John Wayne was in the second world war. Truth is he never served but did make a good number of great movies about the war. Real hero's are the ones who put their life on the line in the line of duty. A soldier has no rights when it comes to going to war he cannot decide to stay home. He can only trust his Commander -In-Chief will use good judgment in sending him to war.

There was an actor by the name of Jimmy Stewart who was in the Air Force. Was in WWII, Korea, Possibly Vietnam, retired as a General. He was real, did real missions, and really did put his life on the line. So some actors are real heroes. but movies are not real, although they may be based on real events.

Could it be the people who answered this question were getting some "juice" out of the joke and going along with it?
Most people certainly know the difference between the movies and real life.
Sounds like you're taking this way too seriously.

So far this month we lost 100 heroes in Iraq. Hollywood's actors are no more heroes than a Michael Jackson is. Our service people are the true heroes, they put their lives on the line, their lives on hold to defend this country. We don't do enough to show our appreciation for their sacrifice.

They are like us, except they use a script, and stunt men. Some get real involved in movies, and forget that it is only a movie.
