Government or regular soldiers = trained to follow and carry out/enforce the superiors' orders.

Guerillas = people with strong ideological beliefs who are trained to fight in unconventional terrains and execute unconventional tactics against established authority and its military personnel with the intent of establish a new form of leadership.

Terrorists = similar to guerillas except that they destroy and kill everything in their path whether military or civilian people.

Hope this helps.

Although, if I can recall American history, the Americans who fought against British tyranny were considered terrorists by the colonizers.

No terrorist with the mind set that these people have, would be a good candidate for the US armed forces. It is my guess that most would not be accepted into the service because of their unhealthy and self destructive approach to fighting a war.

These people are much the same as the Japanese soldier if WWII. The Japanese soldier of WWII had no plans of returning home once he was assigned to combat against the American forces. His own commander would tell him to prepare to kill as many of the enemy as he could, before he too was killed.

The terrorist of today has the same mindset. He has no future, and he fights this war with that in mind, whereas the American and British combatants have every intention of returning home. They have a future, and they have dreams of life following their last tour, in hell.

True "soldiers" fight with honor and do not intentionally kill innocent civilians and when the battle is over, aid those they have wounded, not shoot them in the head.

Sometimes unfortunately, guerilla warfare and even terrorism is a necessary evil. The atomic bombings that ended the Pacific theater of WW2 was an atrocity, an extremely terrorist act against a civilian population which harbored Japanese military manufacturing facilities. But when it was over, who helped the country rebuild? True terrorists do not offer such assistance.
In the revolutionary war, the means of war was to stand upright in full battle regalia and face the enemy. They were dumbfounded by the way we fought, running and hiding in the woods, attacking in surprise. I'm sure that we were considered savage terrorists by their definition of soldiery.

There is no similarity to a traditional soldier! The terrorist only want to destroy everything in site that is contrary to what the government says. They use every means to kill, maim, and destroy everyone. They do not care if it is civilians, children,or their own who get hurt.
