This is a true story so change it to fit your class. Years ago I use to show horses. At one point I was looking for a new show horse and my trainer had one sent in for me to look at. The horse had been abused by it's former owner and trainer. It was in poor shape, malnourished and bad coat. I saw this horse and just wasn't sure because it's reputation was that it was a mean horse to work with. People that I knew came up to me and told me not to buy him because he was evil. The trainer asked me to wait while she put some work into it and saw if it would with kindness be suitable. She took it to a local show, where I watched it work and still had doubts as to whether it would be suitable for me.

My husband and son were at this show also and they went to see this horse. The horse took one look at my husband, started to nicker and put his head on my husband's shoulder. Like, I finally found you and now I'm home. Well, my husband convinced me to try riding this horse. It went very well, the bit broke in it's mouth and I had no control, but the horse just stopped for me. We bought him on the spot and he was mine until the day he died. He never, ever, showed a mean temperament the whole time we owned him. And we took many show championships.
