The words became irregular words or codes.?

Question

I used window XP, but when I sent people emails and they replied my emails
The words became irregular words or codes.
For examples,
“company” become “companyâ€・
don’t become don’t
week’s become week’s

It looks like the email is being read in ASCII (old computer language before html) that does not recognize certain symbols and comes up with these gibberish looking words.
Check your email settings that outgoing and received mail is in html .
