Yes, the Buddhist belief in general is to live in such a way as to do as little harm to other living things as possible. For this reason Buddhists priests as well as many regular Buddhist adherents are generally vegetarians. I just finished reading a book by Thich Nhat Hanh though where he says that Buddhism is a path and there are many stages along the path so start where you are and work from there. They do advocate making some efforts though to work toward a more enlightened place. So to be a good Buddhist I think would mean working toward eating less meat and maybe some day working toward vegetarianism.

Yes, Buddhist perfer to eat less meat and not take life. So they would prefer to eat one fish instead of 10 shirmp as you only took on life instead of 10.

If you want to be a Buddhist, you can eat whatever you want. If you want to be a Christian, eat only clean meats, or better yet, abstain from meats as they are highly toxic in today's world.
