now she is asking that an alternative is found instead due to her being vegitarian

Hey pangel bless your daughters heart for being so caring.
There are diffrences of strictness. Some Muslims will not eat any meat thats not slaughtred according to Islamic rites. Other Muslims will eat meat as long is slaughtred by a Christain or Jew . for Muslims any form of pork and alchol is forbidden.
Hope that helps.

I know a Jain, and her religion has great dietary restrictions. I believe that they think that being involved in the processs of preparing something that was killed is being a part of the killing. So that is one religious group that would refuse to take part in cooking meat...
Just ignore people like Forever, they have labeled anything that they cannot control or understand as evil/satanic. It is a very hurtful and unkind thing to do, and such a trait is a characteristic of the animal state of mind.

I am not Muslim, but I work with many in a food service environment and they all cook and handle non Halal meats. I am personally a vegetarian, and I definitely still had to cook meat for my cooking and foods classes in high school. She may try to persuade the school to give another alternative, good luck!

I'm not sure whether meat substitutes should be allowed. After all, you may be a vegetarian but suppose you work as a chef. Not all your customers will be food cranks. You still have to know how to prepare meat safely and properly. In addition, I have known three vegetarian women who brought their children up with meat in order to ensure that they had an adequate diet. They all becane veggies once they were adult but agreed with their mother that it's not a particularly healthy diet for kids.
As for health problems with pork, it's almost totally unknown in Britain nowadays. We have food safety legislation and carcase inspections. In addition, if pork is properly cooked, it's perfectly safe. As to its sexual preferences (as mentioned by on answer) - who cares, we're eating it not ****ing it. (Maybe they don't like that aspect of the pigs life because it reminds them of themselves)
Seriously, the anti-pork answers are basically barking! Many animals eat their own faeces (or those of other creatures) plaice and sole for starters - considered a delicacy by most people. The meat )pork) is as healthy as any other, animal fats exist on all meats and, if you're worried, cut it off. The rationale of people who tell you that it causes disease is the same as suggesting that the human race should give up sex entirely as it is possible to acquire diseases that way as well. The human race wouldn't last long :-)

Muslims are generally not allowed to handle anything that is prohibited in Islam unless it is a life-or-death situation. So handling harm meat such as pig meat would not be allowed. Neither is handling alchohol.

sounds a bit like pc gone mad again but I suppose she could talk to the teacher and ask if she can use quorn instead although the cooking method will differ. I'm sure she will only have to cook it and not eat it.

Well in Islam we can handle any kind of meat as long as it did not come from a pig. Islam allows you to eat, cook, or handle anything but pork or any substance that comes from pig.

Try and get soya granules. I think you can get them in most stores but when cooked they look exactly like mince meat.

It isn't what goes into a man, but what comes out of a man that defiles him. I think that this christian belief is valid. Health laws were given due to health problems. But now, Lobster is considered good eats, when it was condemned. Bye spooky, hope it works out......
