The LAST thing you want to do is get between a dog and something it wants. It'll just tear you up too. This applies to dogfights, food, children, etc. You did the right thing.

He's wrong. You were right to keep your distance and call the police. Big mean dogs are dangerous!

So are guys who get mad when you make your own decisions. So, you are right also--in my opinion-- to have second thoughts about the relationship. This guy sounds controlling, which can be a warning sign of a potential abuser. Do you really want to be with someone who judges you and gets angry for something that's not really his business?

You did the right thing. You are not trained what so ever with dogs, and Rottweilers should not be messed with. If you could have done something else, the only thing I could think of would be to figure out where their parents were that they were not watching their 3 year old.

There is no right or wrong answer. That is a question of instinct. Some people's instinct goes to self-preservation, some people might jump in and try and get the dog off the kid without thinking of their own bodily harm.

He is- There was NO way that you could have done more. He just seems to have an overinflated ego. I'm glad for you that you're leaving him. He doesn't really deserve to have you, because he wasn't thinking of how you could've been hurt diong what he suggested you do.

YOU DID THE RIGHT THING BY CALLING THE POLICE. TELL HIM IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN, FOR HIM TO JUMP OVER THE FENCE AND DO SOMETHING.
