OMG - where do you live that it has taken you almost a year to ask a doctor about this?

There could be several reasons for the problem, ranging from sleep apnea to chemical or hormone imbalance, to I don't know what. Some of the causes are more serious than others but any time you have a sleeping problem for more than a week or so you should really be talking to your Dr.

Go to the doctor already!

I suggest your sister talk to her doctor and ask about havinf a sleep study done. I am a lifetime insomniac. It just got worse and worse over the years. I finally went to a sleep clinic and they found out I have sleep apnea. I never even go into REM sleep, the deepest sleep. Now I know why I am so tired all the time. I now have a CPAP machine to help me breathe better at night and it does help. Now I have a problem more with sleeping too much, rather than not sleeping enough. I think my problem now has more to do with depression.
