My grandfather left an insurance policy in my name, passed on in 1980, and grandma passed 2 months ago. My aunt is an evil catholic who won't send it to me, she wants my mother's address, whom wants nothing to do with her or the policy. My mom's name was on it only because I was a child at the time, it is totally paid up and matured, but my aunt said it has to be sent to my mother, then she sends it to me. I have no idea what the insurance company name is, my aunt won't tell me. She demands my mother give her address to my aunt, but my aunt just wants to stir up crap. My dad died when I was 4 and my aunt, his twin sister, has held a 37 year grudge against my mother's side of the family, blaming my mother for his death, so this has become a way for her to stir up trouble again. I am near bankruptcy and really could use that money, but how do I find it, the insurance company, or the policy ? I am stuck with nowhere to turn and no money for an attorney in this matter. please help me.

You need to find out who the executor of the will is. Your mum may well know, you then contact the executor and they should have all the information you need - might be family or might be a solicitor. That's the best place to start. Is there no way that your mum can help you with this then at least you can get the details if this aunt is prepared to send the info to her. Even set up a mail or PO box for it so you don't have to give her the exact address. Try those options and see how you get on. Depending on how much info you can get from the exectutor you might need a copy of the death certificate to be able to get info out of an insurance company. It's worth giving it a try anyway - you're entitled.

LOL on the evil Catholic thing, like they're related!

Well, if you are the beneficiary of the policy, rest assured - the insurance company won't give a check to anyone except you!

I'd suggest that if your mother's NAME is on the policy, and not YOURS, then the insurance company will only give the check to your mother.

They can't send the check to anyone except the person named on the policy as beneficiary. I'd strongly suggest you give her a PO box for your mother.

If this money is truly yours then just get a lawyer and have him deal with it. You shouldn't have to go through this at all if you are the beneficiary. If your Mother is the beneficiary then that is another story. It's too bad you had to say evil Catholic because I would have probably felt more sorry for you but, I think there are social problems on both sides of the family

If there are any relatives other then your aunt ask them if they remember the insurance company. Go to them and try to at least the name of the insurance.
Tell your mother to get a P.O. office box number and then she can send that for her address. But try to get it in writing from your aunt she needs to send it to your mother form there on in I would think it could go to court

I know lawyers are expensive but could you try Legal Aid? They might be able to answer your question and give some ideas on how to go about getting your money. It sounds very frustrating! Good Luck!
