the army guy is right.it's just the same.
I Test Fired various rifles but i still prefer the PSG-1 for mid range sniping and a Barret M82a1 for anti material role.M40a1 is just a specialized version of the Remington 700,custom built by marine armorers at marine corps weapons training in quantico virginia using precision barrels such as an Obernmeyer that is threaded to accept sound suppresors.
Even if you have the latest weapons,it all boils down if you can properly utilize the weapon.the shooter is more important than the weapon.

You are too young to know. If you are not too young you can go to a gun club and fire one. Somehow I think we on Q&A would not feel safe with one in your hand. Hey, join the marines and find out, although you won't get the m40 you are hoping for. Unless you sign up to be in the sniper regiment.

When I served in the Army, one of my courses we were taught to fire practically every weapon in the inventory you could hold in 2 hands on on a tripod....including selective anti-personnel riles. This was the Viet Nam era. The question you should be asking is .....

.....if you used a sniper rifle on a human; was that cool?

Firing at static targets is the same with a .45 cal, M16, M2....or anything else.
