Hey Everyone,

Got some weekend photos back from my friends and I noticed my teeth are a tad to yellow for my liking.
Do any of those whiting products out there really work? Crest White Strips?

Thanks!

Melissa

I'm a dental hygienist, I highly recommend Crest White Strips. I get compliments on my teeth all the time. I have before/after pictures and the results are amazing. I never used the whole box because I was happy with the results I achieved from using half of the package. Follow the directions on the box. I am not a smoker and I don't drink red wine or coffee. If you smoke your results will not be that great. In fact, dentists that I work for refuse to bleach smokers teeth unless they quit smoking.

If you have alot of dental work on your front teeth, such as crowns and fillings, I don't recommmend them, because they will not lighten dental work. When you get a filling, they match the filling to your tooth colour. If you wanted to whiten your teeth in the future, the strips will work on your natural tooth, but not on the filling (whiter tooth with an old, yellow filling)

If you have intrensic stain on your teeth (part of the enamel), bleach will not remove it. There are many causes for intrensic stain. Some intrensic stain is formed during tooth development, When it erupts in the mouth it is stained. An example is tetracycline staining. Other intrensic stains can be formed after the tooth has erupted in your mouth and bleach will not remove it. I often see stains which is formed from people drinking too much pop/juice eroding the enamel away (decalcification), which leads to sensitivity and a cavity.

The best thing to do is talk to your dentist/hygienist. He/she will let you know what type of stain you have (extrinsic/intrensic) and what type of whitening product will be best for your teeth.

I don't recommend buying the kind of whitening product you paint on from the drug store, it doesn't work. I think Crest White Strips is the best product you can buy without buying the expensive, but effective bleaching treatment from your dentist.

Keep in mind everyone is different; therefore they will get various results. I didn't think my teeth were that yellow before I tried the strips, but after I tried them, I saw a big difference. Some people with very yellow teeth may not have the dramatic results I had and will get better results from professional bleaching at the dental office.

If you are a smoker, the best thing for you to do is quit smoking, then whiten!!!!

yes they work! Not as well as your dental offices because the peroixide isn't as strong, but i do believe if you buy over the counter whitening the crest white strips have the best result. One thing to be aware of though is that if you have any white fillings or crowns they do not bleach with any product. As far as sensitivity that can happen cause the "pores" in ur teeth open so that can cause sensitivity to some people. That being said make sure you don't smoke or drink dark beverages for about a half hour after bleaching. If you do experience sensitivity visit your dentist for flouride or but the Act mouthwash that contains flouride! -angelia -RDA

If you are going to buy them go to the dentist. My dad gave me some and they really work but only leave them on for an hour because the saliva will break down the peroxide and wont work much longer than an hour. I also use the gel that he gives me along with the tray he made me, so it is molded to my teeth. The sensitivity varies between patients. Mine will get sensitive if I do not bleach for a while. The cost of the professional bleach is around 75 and the gel is 300 and the zoom is even more expensive

I believe so! It's a good solution for whiter teeth. I wear Crest White Strips sample at least twice a day. Check out this site http://www.upkb.com/crestwhitestrips.php for oral care tips and product info.

yes but make sure you use sensodyne and ACT rinse 6 weeks prior to bleaching. follow the directions, and make sure you do not ingest any of the material. i would recomend the crest white strips over any other, just the basic ones, all of the others do the same exact thing. don't over bleach though, it really is bad for your enamel.

Actually yes, as long as they are used according to the instructions--and I mean to the letter! I used them about 4 years ago--only on top--and those teeth are still whiter than my bottom ones. They have also done wonders for my brother. Just don't overdo it, because that can cause erosion and pain.

Good luck!

They work but the down side of some of them are that they eat away at the enamel on your teeth.
