You don't have to cook it very long because you're only cooking the kernels, not the cob. Boiling water for 5-10 minutes. If it's fresh corn you won't even need butter or salt and pepper.

The most important thing about corn is to know how to check for freshness when you're buying it. If you pull back the husk to expose the kernels put your fingernail into a kernel and if it pops and juice goes flying then you've got a good fresh ear.

Hot Water Method:
1) Bring large pot of water to boiling. Do not add salt, it toughens the corn.
2) Slide cleaned corn into boiling water; don't overcrowd. Cover. When water returns to boiling, cook 2-3 minutes. Drain and serve.

Cold Water Method:
1) Place cleaned ears in large, deep skillet or flameproof baking pan without overcrowding. Cover with cold water.
2) Cover skillet. Bring to boiling over medium-high heat. Remove skillet from heat. Drain corn and serve with butter.

How to Microwave Corn:
1) Place each cleaned ear on separate piece of waxed paper. Brush ears with melted butter; wrap in paper, twisting ends closed.
2) Microwave one ear at full power 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 minutes; two ears for 5 1/2 to 6 1/2 minutes.
