I know there are alot of cliches concerning witches. I'm dressing up as a historically correct one, and I was wondering exactly how many were rooted in true practices. Does anyone know?

Witches have always been normal people and look just like everyone else, except those who either do rituals sky clad or wear robes.
Going Sky clad will get you in trouble, so wear a robe with a hood and use cord for a belt and have an athame stuck in it. You can also wear a pentacle necklace.

Carry an athame on your belt, however never use it for harm. Carry a medicine bag full of herbs. Wear a necklace with an ancient symbol on it.

the wide brimmed pointy hat actually is historical--like the pointed hats of wizards, they were believed to enhance brainwaves, the besom or broom is historical too, but make it look good!

I don't believe there were ever any witches, it was just a way to get rid of women who were annoying men.
