The US must ratify the Kyoto protocal, being the first step toward doing something about this global problem which we are cheifly to blame.

Global warming is fact, there is no belief to it.

CO2 is 30% higher than it has been for 650,000 years. Methane is 130% greater. These are two of the main pollutants humans put into the atmosphere in excess, and they are two of the primary greenhouse gases.

Look at the 'hockeystick', which shows a dramatic warming since 1950 after a fairly stable climate for 1000 years. In fact, the 10 hottest years in recorded history have all happened since 1990, with 2005 being the hottest, and 2006 is shaping up to maybe break that record.

How's that for proof of man's fault in this? There is ample proof, any real scientist will tell you that.

There has NEVER been an article doubting man's influence on global warming published in a peer-reviewed journal. A recent study of almost 1000 proved that.

Yes, the earth naturally heats and cools, but the rate and amount we are warming now is unprecedented in the recent geologic past. We are doing this, and we must stop it. This is not some political statement or rhetoric. This is science trying to educate a crass, ignorant public of the damage they are doing. The magnitude of temperature increase ALREADY is about 10x that of the 'little ice age' of the middle ages, and rate and amount are only going up.

Just to be clear, glacial and interglacial cycles are mainly controlled by astronomical fluctuations, but we have a detailed record of the last 7 cycles, and what the climate and CO2 is doing now is way different and extreme. The rate of increase is much higher than in the past AND the value itself is much higher.

I agree with Questor. It seems that a belief in global warming is like a religion, to be believed by faith and not because of any scientific evidence and I mean evidence, and not "scientists say so" that seems to the extent of their nebulous evidence. Global warming has very little supportive evidence and a lot of evidence to refute it. Their position of promoting glacial growth would be comical if it weren't potentially harmful. The fanatics are proposing taxes and restrictions to our life style to supposedly stop global warming. I notice that these pro-glacier zealots probably have never seen a glacier let alone seen an unbiased report on their formation. Glaciers naturally melt. It is not the end of the world.

This is not a belief question, these is tons of scientific proof that it is happening! And people should be doing something about it right now, not "going" to do something! Even if it seems that there isn't much a single person could do, everyone should do any "little" thing they can.

I am using my bike/legs as much as possible and my car as little as possible. When I'm driving, I try to drive in a way that saves gas. I don't use energy for nothing, and I try to use things that are not packaged in tons of plastic etc. I try to realize that there are lots of things that I don't need, and that not buying them would save a lot of oil, energy, nature. I choose natural things if I have choice. Even using things like natural dishwashing soap can make a big difference.

I have to say that the government is not doing much to make this easier. For example, if you live in an appartment, it can be very hard to do something basic like recycle! Shouldn't a town/city have a place to recycle, open for anyone? I think it should be possible for everyone to do that, because most of our trash is recyclable!

With the melting of the glaciers and polar ice caps, I think it's rather obvious that global warming is a real problem. We must all consider, is there anything anyone really can do about it? Or is it too late already?

The planet has gone through 10 warming and cooling cycles, each lasting about 100,000 years, during the last 1,000,000 years. Each time, the warming cycle have lasted about 10,000 years and the cooling cycle has lasted about 90,000 years. We are currently living in a warming cycle. Humans can dream all they want about being masters of their domain, however, very little can be done to change they cycle. Humans believe they can exert influence over the earth despite the fact that no one can even fully explain how and why it works the way it does. If you do not know (and I mean know without question or debate, beyong a shadow of a doubt) then you can not fix it.

Believing in global warming is like believing in the power of pyramids or in astrology. There is no data to support it, and it is not a subject for "belief" but for proof.

It is also not a subject for statement and refutation, so that proponents get to sit back and say "prove us wrong". The proponents need to prove their case and have not been able to do so after more than 50 years trying.

Since it doesn't exist, there's nothing to do about it.
