Hello there. My little sister brought home a cat she found on the way home from school today. He looks like a siamese. The kids at her school were picking on him, pulling on him and hurting him. He's extremely thin. His head is bigger around than his waist which looks like barely more than his backbone. His little back hips are so thin they're sorta jutting out oddly, but he doesn't seem to have too much trouble moving around save for being weak. He doesn't move much, but he also doesn't act like he's unsavable. Right now he's even getting a drink of water on his own. What sorts of things should I feed him to help put some healthy meat on his bones the fastest? My sister said that they did manage to feed him and he ate a bit. I'm just worried about his size. Anything that you can usually find around your house (not too unusual) that would help him most right now? It'll be a couple days before I can buy him anything special. Thanks in advance!

No milk!! The milk humans usually drink is not good for cats- it will end up with major diarrhea.
If you can't get it to a vet in the morning, you can always call and get their input on what you need to do.
Foods to try will be meats, tuna will work and the aroma will entice the kitten to eat. You don't want to give it tuna only and all the time, but it will do in a pinch. See if the cat will try bread if nothing else. Avoid spicy/seasoned stuff.
Canned food is fine, most times it's a bit rich for a young cat and they tend to overeat and have thin bowels. Is there a corner store close by that you can get a small box of cat food? Dry is better for dental health, and you can moisten it with water to make is soft enough for tender teeth.
www.meezer.com is the addy for Siamese Internet Cat Club, that and www.siameserescue.org should have some tips as well.
Good luck, let us know how it goes!

First congrads! It is nice to know there are such nice people like you to help out little critters like your new friend.
Second, get that kittie to a vet pronto! There could be any number of reasons besides malnourishment that the kittie so thin. He needs to be tested to make sure he is not ill. Feeding him could be bad for him right now!
If he recieves a clean bill of health from the vet and is just undernourished, the vet will recommend a feeding pattern and plan for him/her. If money is an issue and why you must wait a couple of days, the local shelter may be able to assist you with an exam, or maybe your local humane society might give some financial assistance for a vet and some food to start you out with.
Don't despair. You must feel an urge to keep him and I recommend that you do. Even if money is tight there is always an answer. You were meant to find him.
Good luck, the world is blessed to have caring folks like you.

I am a cat rescuer. Have done in excess of 100. Just a little background. Before they step into my house they are at the vet. You never know what they might bring in....If you have other pets or not. If it should be a flea problem it cuts your work in half by not bringing the animal it.......that said......the cat is already in so don't worry about the size.....may be a fairly young cat and sometimes the head seems to outgrow them kinda like E.T . Since this kitty wasn't expected go slow with the food. Keep it bland...if you can keep it raw....ground beef. raw chicken (ground up). Seems to be old enough but a wonderful treat is canned goat milk( found by the evaporated milk section) diluted ofcourse. Don't worry.....kitty will survive once he has a clean bill of health....get a leukemia test....while at the vet. Anything else that comes along I'm sure you can handle. Thank you for saving a soul

Milk is NOT a good idea. Most cats are lactose intolerant and giving milk to a cat will cause either stomach upset or diareeah...2 things this kitty does not need right now. Do not feed too much tuna as it can also cause problems, esp longterm such as rubber jaw.

Good foods such as Iams are wise, but not too much. Its better for the cat if you are taking him to the vet to not have eaten much. Also, kitty will have a sensitive tummy to a lot now, and may try and gorge himself. (if he vomits or get diareeah do not be surprised, he has been thru a lot)

Keep fresh water out and feed bits at a time. Dont push him to be very social...you have seen what he has gone thru. (and I applaud your saving him)

Get a soft blanket for him to lay on as well. If you have a small box to put it in, he may like that. Boxes help cats feel "safe". Make sure he can see out of it, or he will be wary. Put this in a smaller room with a door. That way he can move around, not freak out as much, and just feel safer.

Make sure a vet visit it sooner than later; or take him to a shelter where they can evaluate him. You could also call a shelter in your area in the meantime for tips.

If you have no cat food in the house, you can give canned tuna, mackerel, salmon, or some chicken in the meantime. It is not the proper food to feed long term, though, as it will not provide a balanced diet for him. If you don't have that on hand, then try whatever he will eat as something is better than nothing! Contact you local shelter - perhaps they can spare enough to get you through until you can get him some kitten food. (Buy the best you can afford, cheap cat food is full of fillers and things you can't imagine they'd put into it) Get him to the vet as soon as you can to get him checked out. I can almost guarantee he has worms, and that will also make him thin. Good luck and thanks for helping out an animal in need!

KittyCatLover is on the right track here. Bits of cooked chicken, rice (brown if you have it) and hamburger would be fine for a few days. Cats MUST have taurine in their diets and cooking meat destroys the taurine so get cat food as soon as you can. Canned cat food will help him beef up better than dry. His teeth may not be in good shape and dry isn't a good diet. Find some foods such as Natural Balance, Felidae, Eagle Pack, Solid Gold for him. These foods have high quality protein (not by-product meat as the grocery store foods have) and will give him the best possible nourishment.

Of course the vet must check him over. That's essential. I truly hope that he just needs your TLC and a good steady diet to regain his body mass and be a healthy cat.

I would take him to the vet just as soon as you could as he could have some medical issues that you would need to address. For now, just feed him anything that he will eat. If you have to, go up to the convenience store and get him some cat food to hold him over until you can get to the grocery store. Cats like bread, altho it's not very nourishing. You could give him bread soaked in milk. Normally, I would NEVER recommend giving a cat milk, but in this case you need to give him something he will eat. Milk normally gives the cats runs and is not pleasant. Cats are carnivores so feed him anything with meat. It doesn't nessecarily mean that he will eat it tho. And you are terrific for saving his life. Good luck !

POOR KITTY!!! :(

First keep letting kitty know he is loved. Go out of your way to hug, cuddle, play and talk to him. Bring him on your bed at night. That type of thing.
As for food. You don't need to spend 100$ on a bag of food. A good brand such as Friskies by Purina will suit his needs for now. Combine it with a can of wet food on the side. One can of wet a day until he is at his proper weight again. Give him Pounce treats too. Lots of water. Even a little milk. Not cow milk but the milk formula they give kittens. You can get it at any Walmart. A little in the beginning to help him along. It is like Ensure but for kitty's.
Make sure he does not gorge himself on the food. He will be a greedy little devil for a few days :)
I had to resist table treats BUT I do cheat and give my furry kids a few little scraps from the table. Only when they are being good!

All these numbers and letters are from my kitty "Foxxy" she is after my dinner so she tromped all over the keyboard to get at it!

Just a side note. Is it not scary that kids are finding it OK to torture animals?! Do these kids TRULY believe it is OK to do this to animals? Do they ENJOY hurting a poor defenseless scared cat? It makes me scared knowing that this is the future of our country and is one day going to be caring for me when I am old, weak, feeble. My God. An animal abuser today maybe a old woman beater tomorrow. Chills. Really gives me chills.

IAMS is a BIG NO NO! Look up IAMSCRUELTY.COM on the net. What you see will shock you!!

Oh thank you for wanting to help him!

Take him to the vet immediately. Try the animal shelter's vet if you don't have a lot of extra money; but, they may not be able to provide 100% of the care he needs. The vet can help you to find a healthy diet for him and give him any medical treatment he needs. Also, the vet will be able to check if he is fixed, tell you his age, and give him his shots.

My cat was a 4.5 lb stray when I got her in April. I put her on cat food since she was not extremely unhealthy. But, as I said, do not try a food regimen until you have spoken to the vet. Also, be sure to make sure he always has water and food available, as well as keeping his litter box clean. And, of course, give him lots of love and petting. That will help him to trust people again.

Tell your daughter to tell the principal or her teachers who was doing this to the animal. They need to be punished. She can be anonymous about it, and they will hopefully learn a lesson that will prevent this in the future.

Good luck!

the best way to help the cat is to send it to a vet. If the cat is in that bad of condition then the only way is the vet. im sorry that the kids was picking on it. its not the cats fault it is the owners that had him! Dam them people. animals need food and water and a place to live to. just because they are animals dont give people any reason to abuse them, or kick them out. Good luck and God Bless.
