Perfect song is "Daddy's Little Girl" and one hand goes on her waist and the other goes in her hand. How awesome that you take this responsibility so seriously. Both your gf and her daughter are very lucky to have you.
Another perfect song is Butterfly Kisses

Traditionally a waltz or box step are done for the father/daughter dance. You will place one hand (generally right hand) on her waist and the other (left hand) will hold her hand.
If you have the time and money I would recommend taking a dance class (ask her to go with you even, then she can get in some dance lessons too)!

Top 10 Father/Daughter dance songs
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1) Butterfly Kisses
Bob Carlisle's Butterfly Kisses is one of the all-time favorites. The message is loved by dads and daughters alike and the tempo makes dancing easy.
2) When Angels Fly
When Angels Fly is a new addition to our top ten list of father-daughter wedding songs. Performed by Tony Ransom & The Heavely Light Orchestra, it is at once inspiring and memorable
3) My Girl
The classic My Girl by The Temptations is a song some of the fathers just loved. It is fun to dance to, and brings back some memories for the fathers of their teenage years.
4) Through the Years
Through the Years by Kenny Rogers is a timeless song of love and is a favorite of many of my friends. It is a little bit country, which appeals to many dads and daughters, but is sweet and memorable.
5) Sunrise Sunset
The wedding song from the Fiddler on the Roof is a long time favorite for the dad and daughter dance. It was sung at my wedding reception 26 years ago, and has special memories for me. And it makes for an elegant dance given the slow and graceful tempo.
6) How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved by You)
This James Taylor classic hit is a great but less often used wedding dance choice. Many dads remember it from their youth and it is a lot of fun to dance to. This is not your classic waltz, but it is still memorable.
7) The Way You Look Tonight
An old Frank Sinatra tune (with the Count Basie orchestra) is a wonderful dad and daughter dance number. It has a fun beat and is well crafted for a litte swing dance at a wedding or reception.
8) Unforgettable
You can't listen to Natalie Cole's version of her father's hit Unforgettable without feeling the warm affection between a father and a daughter. And it is easy to dance to as well.
9) Lullabye (Goodnight my Angel)
One of Billy Joel's soulful songs sings a lullabye to his daughter and provides a favorite dance song for weddings. This is a unique song--not one you'll hear at every wedding--and still is meaningful to a dad and his newlywed daughter.
10) My Father's Eyes
Amy Grant's performance of My Father's Eyes is sweet and soulful and will be loved by both you and your daughter.

Luther Vandross' song is a beautiful song, but not appropriate for a wedding dance. It's about a dad who's dead! Some suggestions: Butterfly kisses, Daddy's Little Girl, What a Wonderful World.

Try listening to this song...I think it would be AMAZING. My Father died 3 months before my wedding and this is the song that I know he loves as he looks down on me.
Artist/Band: Heartland
Lyrics for Song: I Loved Her First
Lyrics for Album: I Loved Her First
Look at the two of you dancing that way
Lost in the moment and each others face
So much in love your alone in this place
Like there's nobody else in the world
I was enough for her not long ago
I was her number one
She told me so
And she still means the world to me
Just so you know
So be careful when you hold my girl
Time changes everything
Life must go on
And I'm not gonna stand in your way
But I loved her first and I held her first
And a place in my heart will always be hers
From the first breath she breathed
When she first smiled at me
I knew the love of a father runs deep
And I prayed that she'd find you someday
But it still hard to give her away
I loved her first
How could that beautiful women with you
Be the same freckle face kid that I knew
The one that I read all those fairy tales to
And tucked into bed all those nights
And I knew the first time I saw you with her
It was only a matter of time
But I loved her first and I held her first
And a place in my heart will always be hers
From the first breath she breathed
When she first smiled at me
I knew the love of a father runs deep
And I prayed that she'd find you someday
But its still hard to give her away
I loved her first
From the first breath she breathed
When she first smiled at me
I knew the love of a father runs deep
Someday you might know what I'm going through
When a miracle smiles up at you
I loved her first

"Because You Loved Me" by Celine Dion. At my brother's wedding, my sister-in-law danced to this with her father and it was such a special, touching moment - everyone at the reception was dabbing their eyes. She is the middle of three sisters, and their mom died when they were all in their early teens. My sis-in-law also gave her dad the printed lyrics in a frame with pictures of the two of them. If you have been a major source of love and support in this young lady's life, this song would be perfect for your father/daughter dance!

I believe a waltz is the most popular dance for father/daughter wedding dances.

A waltz is the most popular. Put your left hand around her waist (nowhere near her butt btw lol) she puts her right hand on your shoulder. her left hand goes in your right hand, and have those hands up and your elbows at an angle 90-120 degrees is a good angle.

Because your not her biological father I think a nice waltz would be good. Daddy's little girl wouldn't bee great, even though she is like a daughter to you, some people my not like that. Do some song hunting togeather! I'm sure you'll find somehting really nice. :)
