You see, I might be working down there. So, would I stick out like a sore thumb? Or, do you often see whities on the street?

What is the ethnic mix of Port of Spain? I heard it is not typical of the rest of Trinidad. Gracias.

No, you would not stick out by your complexion, but your accent would do justice in that way to you,you see Trinidad and Tobago,is made up of a very rich and diverse population in terms of races.the satistics that are balow are little bit off but it shouldn't be by much.
The islands,(Both are under one gov),have a population mixture of 40% black, and 40% Indian, the next in line are persons who are of mix descendants of Indian, blacks, whites, Chinese and etc.And 3% would be whites and another percentage 6% percent or so would be others, that make up the population.good luck on your new job!
Oh! don't worry you'll get along just fine, just be your self and observe your surroundings.

Absolutely not, Port of Spain is visited on a daily basis by many white boys, some of them local who reside in areas such as Westmoorings, Goodwood Park and Diego Martin. The city can also see a number of ex patriates white boys as well on a daily basis. You will definately see whites on the streets of Port of Spain. The ethnic mix of Port of Spain is 75% African, 20% East Indian and 5% other. You are right this is not typical of the rest of Trinidad which is 46% East Indian, 45% African and 9% other.

Although in they are in the minorty, Port of Spain is full of expatriate whites (in the hundreds) and their families. The largest population of local whites live in the city too. Therefore the only thing that will make you stick out is your accent or if you choose to dress like a tourist :o)
The population of Trinidad is 40% East Indian; 40% African & 20% mixed / White / Chinese. Port of Spain has a signif. higher proportion of White / Meditteranean / Syrian people than the rest of the country.

no u won't. Trinidad is a country of such a diverse culture that it's hard for any race to stand out in a negative way. the only thing that might make u stand out is your accent, and don't even worry too much about that cuz it won't be a negative thing. other than that u'll be just fine. in our national anthem it says, "here every creed and race find an equal place". and it's sooo true. u don't have to worry about racism or anything like that. trinidad is an island of warm ppl who are one no matter ur race. just be cool and enjoy it, cuz there's no where else on earth that u'll find such a small country with so many mixes of races living in ONE place as ONE ppl.

In Trinidad you will find all types of races. Just enjoy and sample our beautiful culture when you arrive. Try doubles (our local Indian delight, you can eat by the roadside while its piping hot) BAKE and SHARK ( delicious especially at Macaras Bay)
PELAU, CALLALOO, SALTFISH BULJOL,... so many indigenous and tasty dishes!
