What did you have as a wedding cake? i am thinking about getting a one-off Choccywoccydodah cake that will probably end up costing me about £800. Neither of us like fruit cake so chocolate sounds like the way to go. Anyone had anything really unique?

Try checking out the Alaska Silk Pie Company. You can get a few of those for your cake (placing one on each table). They are not only DELICIOUS and to die for, they are reasonably priced. Cheesecakes, cupcakes, candy bars instead of cakes, a dessert tray with various types of treats are all great alternatives to cake.

Good luck!!

We are going with Silk Pie....

Well, wedding cakes are typically not fruit cakes in the US, so having a rgruit cake would be unique. Red Velvet Cake is wonderful as is chocolate cake. We haven't decided what kind of cake to have at our wedding yet though. Good luck!

£800 is a huge amount to spend on a cake and totally over the top. Bet if you ask around some more you could get it cheaper. Individual fairy cakes iced with you and your fiances initials on would be different and perhaps a small traditional fruit cake to cut up and give to those people who can't make your big day.

Something I have seen in quite a few wedding magazines recently is a crocembouche (sp?) which is basically a tower of profiteroles covered in a toffee/butterscotch sauce. Looks really stunning and you could also serve it as dessert (if your venue will allow it). The cakes from Choccywoccydoodah are really amazing but they are soooo much money for what they are (plus I think Jordan had one - for me that would be a reason not to!).

Spice cake is a wonderful alternative.

I had a swirl of white and chocolate cake for our wedding cake.

I just went to a wedding where they had individual cupcakes in chocolate, yellow, white, spice and angel food. the bride made them ahead of time, froze them and defrosted them the day before the wedding. They were yummy. They were all frosted with white icing with a peach colored rose. She had 300 people at the reception.

I got married on Saturday and we had one plain iced cake on top of a stand and then a load of little buns underneath it. Nobody ate the cake but I never got my hands on a bun because they went so fast. It cost sixty pounds.
