I had debt from 11 years ago. I rebuilt my credit and had excellent credit. That old debt all of the sudden appears as another credit card with a new number on my online account with Wachovia. They basically just reissued debt from 10 years ago on a new credit card number. The debt was already written off and off my credit report, but they turn around and give it a new number and throw it back at you... Its B.S. Anyone know how I can get this new card off my credit report. The bank is lieing and saying I cashed out the card a year ago.. Banks are so sneaky now - they are actually straight out lieing to credit bureaus

Dispute it with the credit bureaus. They must provide proof of the debt, not just send a letter saying that you owe it. Tell the bureau it's not yours you need proof that it is.
FYI- Just because it was written off doesn't mean you don't owe it. If it goes off your report in 7 years, then reappears sometimes it's legal. I have 1 account on my report 3 times. Once by original creditor, once by 1 collection agency with their assigned account #, and once by a second collection agency with their account #. The same account, same balance different account numbers. It's horrible I'm in the process of having them removed. There is a statute of limitations on the time they have to collect a debt, check with your state for this time limit. It's not the same as the 7 year thing for the bureaus.

Before you go "nuts" on this deal, is it possible that you reactivated the credit line by agreeing to having it placed on a new card? Credit Card companies/and collection companies are using the tactic of offering you a new card with credit after the statute of limitations has passed. However, the catch is that they will place your old debt on the new card as a condition. It's used quite a bit to try to get you to pay back your old debt that was sold for pennies on the dollar. Make sure that you didn't authorize this yourself.

This is absolute fraud. Contact the police and get a report written.

They CAN sell it to collection companies as many times over as they want, and those collection companies can try to collect. But the bank account cannot open a new account with a different number and pretend it is a new account. They HAVE to admit they are trying to collect on your original debt.

In order to have a balance, you have to have used this supposed card, right? Ask to see the charges. Ask to see the signed receipts.

Also, if it shows up on your report, dispute it immediately and claim no ownership of the account.

Dispute the claim. They must show proof of the claim and when showing proof, the date will be present. They can't reissue a negative credit report. Check with the laws in your state. In most cases, 11 years is even past the statue of limitations that they can sue you for.

If what you said were true, then the Bank has commit a criminal offence. You had been legally discharged from bankruptcy. You have no more obligation whatsoever to your former creditors. I think you should report this to the police so that they can conduct an investigation.

This is not possible unless you maintained the same account with them. If such s the case, the account was still active and NOT new debt.
