You've got two answers so far & I'd agree with both of them - check out cat breeds online & also ask your vet's opinion when you take her in.
However, you could also try posting a link to a photo of her & then we could see her ... & maybe make a better guess ... she sure does sound cute.

Here is a site that has good pictures of cats of the various breeds, so you can see what they look like and compare your cat to them. Links to information on the breeds is also provided.
http://cat-breeds.cats-central.com/
You will have to look at the information on the breeds to see what colors and patterns each breed have.
Below is a well written guide to cat coat colors and patterns.

If you're interested in cat coat and color genetics, there is info at this link

From your description, its hard to figure out just what kind of pattern your cat has, except it sounds like she has one of the brown tabby patterned coats. Longhaired cats usually do have straighter guard hairs and wavy or curly hair in their undercoats.
Brown tabby cats are the most common color of tabby (exactly why they are labelled "brown", I've never known either, because most have a gray undercoat with black markings, and some tan to reddish brown shadings on the legs and underneath side.
If she really looks like a squirrel, she could be what is known as "agouti" or a "ticked tabby." Check a picture of the Abyssinian or Somali breed (which is the longhaired version of the Abyssinian cat) to see an example of this coat pattern.

I highly doubt you can find the exact breed of your cat, you can only guess. So just go and look up cat breeds online and compare pictures to your cat, then choose which looks closest and assume that is what she is. But again, I doubt you will find the exact breed, she is most likely mixed.

I personally have never heard of a cat like yours, but again I'm no expert!LOL
But I would guess she is most likely a mixed breed cat.Find a cat breed book or website and look for your kitty!

She is not a special breed, just a cat kind of cat. She would be designated a domestic long-hair (DLH). With that color combination she is what would be called a dilute tortie. Coat color is not breed specific.

Take her to a vet. They may not be able to tell for sure but most of them are familiar enough with animal breeds that they can tell just by looking at the animal
