For me it's not like hearing a voice, it's more like an understanding that just comes to you, an epiphany out of nowhere, it can also be signs, coincidences, so on, it really depends on what you believe.

Sometimes, I hear God speaking to me through other people. God will arrange for someone to give me the answer I am seeking through a word from others. Other times, God leads me to the right scripture and answers my questions this way. Other times, there will be a voice in my head that will give me an answer that I know is something I would never have come up with. Then there are times that the Lord will whisper things through my surroundings. I will ask God a question like, where are you Lord? I will suddenly see a billboard going down the road that says something like "I am with you, always......the Lord". I have had things like this happen to me before. One time, I was broke down on the side of the road. I was really far from home and it was before everyone carried a cell phone. Anyway, I started praying that the Lord would send me some help and also send my angels to watch over me since this was a remote area. Out of nowhere this lady stopped and offered me a ride all the way home! Some 40 miles away! She wore a shirt that said, " I am your guardian angel" Also, she had a crystal angel figure hanging from her mirror. It caught the sun as we were driving home and threw a beautiful rainbow all over the dash. It reminded me of how great the Lord is. How He comes to rescue us in our time of need. What an awesome God! I would say the Lord speaks loud and clear! When I ignore what God says I always get into trouble! These days, I try to be more aware of what God is saying to me.

It's more a feeling than a voice. Like others have said, but more completely- read scripture, as much scripture as you can and watch the lessons that life has to teach you. The force that directs you toward greater acts of love is the "voice of God".
It doesn't act out of fear or greed. Those are things other than God. When you have a sense of something strongly being right, that is the "voice" to listen to.
Unless you are violently insane. Then don't listen to any voices that tell you to do mean stuff. Go to a doctor instead.
But if something tells you to love, then get on with it.

If 1/10 th. of the people on the planet, offered up a thought to GOD, {and I'll assume there is only one GOD for all us}, If that thought took them, 1 second out of there whole day, be it praise, condemnation, thanks, a special request, or a plea for mercy. That in it's self is proof there is a GOD. Who could listen to 70 days worth of thoughts, each day let alone answer a few,

There are people through out this world, each and every day, that say there prayers were answered.
There are people through out this world who have GOD in there thoughts all there waking moments.
I am sure there are religions practised, that ask of it's followers to pay respects at least a few times per day.
I heed only religions with more then One GOD, cast a Leary eye only on those, that don't have red blood or require oxygen.
I don't expect to hear GOD talk to me, with all that needs doing, all the mending that is required, but some how I have faith, that my meagre thought was at least listened to, amongst the cries of the many who need much more then I.
If I were GOD, I wouldn't be there for a moment, never mind 24/7, so I'll not be surprised, should GOD not be there when I come calling, make it point, to say thank you when you get moment, it sort of appeases the guilt of the requests....

You ask: "how do you hear GOD"..plug your ears, you may get hooked on the music, clear your heart and soul, then listen intently with your mind....

look @ the reponses it's amazing...

I've personally never heard a specific voice like someone speaking into my ear. However, that's not to say other people haven't. I met a lady at church 2 weeks ago and we were talking about life. She said she was going through a really hard time at work and came from a heated meeting. She was frazzled and went to her office and had a moment of prayer to ask for help. She said she heard a really loud voice that said 'just quit' and she did. She's never been better and never looked back.

Sometimes after I pray and ask for help or guidance, I feel promptings or the idea/answer comes to me. It seems different from when I come up with ideas on my own. When it happens it's like I have the entire/complete answer at once. To me.. I believe that this is God or the Holy Spirit. Mind you.. doesn't happen every time; only sometimes.

First to hear God you must KNOW him.. and as the bible says the only way to Him is through His son Jesus... Try reading your bible and see if you dont hear his voice much clearer..
I dissagree with the other answer that says you cant hear him.. I hear him all the time and we often speak to each other.. thats what the difference between religion and a relationship is.. Perhaps it comes with maturity, perhaps not.

We hear God through the Holy Spirit, some call it the still small voice, but the point is many of us hear him more than we realize..

I have prayed and prayed... all I ever get is stony silence. I've listened with my ears, my heart, my mind, and my soul. Silence...where does that leave me. Well... perhaps with reality. Don't feel bad that you haven't gotten an answer, most people don't. What other people get is what they want to hear or think they should hear. Many people will lie to you and say they hear a voice. The only people hearing voices are the mentally ill. You have a choice... listen to your own mind and heart, or pretend with the others.

Hi Loki, I have a cat named Loki. LOL
Anyways, no there has never been a voice for me either. Some people I've talked to say that the answers appear in the situations prayed about as some kind of resolution or another. But, as an atheist, I think they're full of crap and trying to feel special as we hurdle through space as tiny dots on a small blue planet. I have no such delusions of grandure.

Yes. It is also a feeling you get deep down inside yourself at your core. When you hear the voice of God in your head its like having a thought that you just know is right. You don't question it or try to tear it apart you just know it is the truth. i hope that you hear this for yourself because it is the greatest thing. Peace to you.

I like your question and it is good. Jesus said that His sheep know His voice. God voice isn't in the thunder or load booming sound. But in the still quiteness you will hear Him speak. Yes I do listen to God.many people would label you crazy. There is even Christians that don't listen.God speaks in dreams ,in visions, even in your thoughts,or through his word.I believe that if Christians would actually listen to God people may start believing in God. Just ask God to speak and you will hear.Ask God to give you ears to hear and eyes to see. God bless.....
