Okay, big problem. My sister is 1500 miles away and is completely & utterly non-technical & PC illiterate. I got her a PC when I was there & got her online, showed her how to use it, etc. I've now talked her through logging on etc. many times on the phone & I'd rather have a root canal.

I want to see what's on her screen & be able to control her machine - type/click on my end and have her see it, to demonstrate actions. I also want to be able to tell her to type/click and be able to see it on my end.

I looked at PC Anywhere. Way too pricey, and I'm not sure if it includes both programs, for my computer and for hers. I also considered GoToMyPC but you can't even find out how much it is on their website unless you set up an account, which I won't do.

I don't even know if either of these would meet my needs, or if there is another program that would be better/cheaper. Also, is there something VERY easy to install on her end, or that I can install from here?

HELP!! :)

Thanks to EVERYONE for your help! I wish I could pick more than one "Best Answer" because there are several very good ones, but I can only pick one. That doesn't mean the other answers aren't appreciated or are not good, because they are.

Again, thank you all!

Well on the cheap XP comes with remote access tools which are built right into the operating system. A tool that I have found to great for remote access is a program called RAdmin. It can be found on the site listed in the source. My suggestion is to try it out. It has low overhead compared to it's pricey competitors and fairly simple controls.

If the both of you have WinXP PRO installed, you can access each others PC remotely without further downloads. You have to have MSN to communicate between the two of you. I have not tried any other IM service, but MSN, so I don't know if any others work. The service is called Remote Desktop. I don't know if the XP Home edition has it pre-installed.

Remote Desktop instructions:

If the two of you do not have it installed, here is the free download site from Microsoft:

Remote Desktop.Remote Assistance.
Feature of Windows XP Pro.
Remote Desktop will log her off her windows session and you will take over. This has to be enabled in the settings in order for you to connect to her pc.
Remote assistance, you both will be looking at her desktop and what ever other apps you open. Only one person can control the mouse.

Just use Remote Desktop ... it comes already with Windows XP installed, but if you want you and your Sister to see her screen, then use Remote Assistance through the MSN Messenger.

I think Microsoft Remote Desktop would work and it's free, but it has to be installed on both computers.
