Did not God Write the 10 commandments in stone with His own finger. Were not the laws that wer given to Moses to write down placed at the side of the Ark and not inside the Ark with the ten commandments?

"The next time a preacher tells you the law is done away with, just go to his church and break the eighth commandment and steal his offering and you'll find out real quick the law is not done away with."
-Anon.

Have you ever heard the expression "Its written in stone?" Where do you think that comes from? Yet people choose to do away with the law of God that He wrote with His on finger

Where laws done away with?
Yes, BUT it was NOT the 10 commandments

There are 2 laws the 10 commandments and the Ceremonial law. The 10 commandments are not part of the Mosaic Law, they are seperate from the Mosaic Law

"And He declared unto you his covenant, which He commanded you to perform, even Ten Commandments; and He wrote them upon two tables of stone. AND the LORD commanded me at that time to teach you statutes and judgments, that ye might do them in the land whither ye go over to possess it. "
Deuteronomy 4:13

GOD Himself also makes a distinction between the Moral law and the Law of Moses

"If they will observe to do according to all that I have commanded them, AND according to all the law that my servant Moses commanded them."
2 Kings 21:8

Both times it says God's law AND Moses’ law, there is a difference

So which law was done away with?
Blotting out the HANDWRITING of ORDINANCES that was AGAINST us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross Colossians 2:14

“Take heed to do all that I have commanded them, according to the whole law and the statutes and the ORDINANCES by the HAND of Moses.”
2 Chronicles 33:8

"Take this Book of the Law and place it beside the ark of the covenant of the LORD your God. There it will remain as a witness AGAINST you.”
Deuteronomy 31:26

Colossians 2:13-16 is talking about ceremonial Sabbath days Passover, The Day of Atonement etc. These are separate from the weekly Seventh day Sabbath

I have to adress some points made above

People ussually say Jesus did away with the law

Jesus did fulfill the law but that does not mean that He did away with the law.

Jesus said “"Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.”

If fulfill means do away with then what Jesus meant was

"Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to do away with them.”

This argument does not add up.

It also says in the Chapter 3 that Jesus fulfilled all righteousness does that mean He did away with all righteousness

People will in one breath say Jesus did away with ALL the laws of Moses. and in the next breath say He gave us new laws Love God and Love your neighbor. The problem is people don't realize that Jesus is quoting Torah... the very laws they claim He did away with
"Love your neighbor as yourself." Leviticus 19:18
"Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. " Deuteronomy 6:5

People who say that all the laws were done away with at the cross unknowingly also end these laws also.

Can you love your neighbor and murder him, or steal from him,
or bare false witness against him?

Can you love God and worship other gods, or worship statues or take his name in vein?

Then how can you love God and say you don't want to spend time with Him on his Holy day?

What does Jesus say about people who preach that the law is not in effect
"Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity" (Matt 7:22-23).

The word iniquity in the Greek literally means LAWLESSNESS.

"Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven."
Matt 5:19

The law has the same characteristics of God
GOOD - Romans 7:12
HOLY - Romans 7:12
JUST - 32:4 Romans 7:12
PERFECT - Psalms 19:7
LOVE - Romans 13:10
RIGHTEOUS - Psalms 19:9
TRUTH - Psalms 119:142,151
PURE - Psalms 19:8
SPIRITUAL - Romans 7:14
UNCHANGEABLE - Matthew 5:18
ETERNAL - Psalms 111:7,8

Why would God get rid of something righteous, pure, true ETERNAL, Holy, just, unchangeable, love good.

"All HIS commandments are sure. They stand fast FOREVER AND EVER" Ps. 111:7, 8

"I am the Lord I CHANGE NOT" Malachi 3:6

"My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips" Psalms 89:34

"If you love me KEEP my commandments" John 14:15

"Do we make void the law through faith, God forbid! we establish the law." Romans 3:31

“What then? Shall we sin, because we are not under the law but grace? God forbid” Romans 6:15

What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet. Romans7:7

Revelation 12:17 And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which KEEP the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.

Revelation 14:12 Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that KEEP the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.

Revelation 22:14 Blessed are they that DO his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.

Good Question!!! I think that people are misunderstanding you question. And Misinterpreting the scriptures.

The Law Of Moses Was done away with by Christ, because of his atonement. The 10 commandments were not part of the Law of Moses.

I think that most Christians know that the Sabbath is the 7th day- which is Saturday. However for whatever reason, it is observed on Sunday by most Chrisitans, Just like Christ's birth was in April and not December, yet we still celebrate in December. I don't think that any of that is truely pertinent to our salvation. I don't think it really matters what day your faith observes the sabbath, so long as it is observed.

I am understanding you question to read that nobody observes the Sabbath anymore, but yet we observe the othe 9 commandments.

Sunday has gone from a day of rest to a day of play. That is the day we go to the lake and sporting events. It is the day to work in the yard, and go to the movies. Instead if we are truely observing the commandments, it will be spent reading scriptues, studying the gospel, spending time with our families, visiting the sick. I admit, I am not the best about observing the sabbath like I should. I don't shop on Sunday, or go to the lake or anything like that, but I am not as good about making it a day of study and reflection like I should.

As for the other Nine commandments, people are not really observing them either. Adultery is rampant and accepted. Couples live together and don't bother getting married, or they carelessly have sex. Many don't even wait for a divorce to be final before they move to a new relationship. Pornography is very rampant. In my mind that is all Adultery, the other word for it is Fornication, it is mostly the same thing though. Stealing, most would not shoplift or rob a bank, but many of those same people have no problem downloading music from internet sites such as Napster and Kaaza, this is nothing more than stealing. Abortion is a form of Murder that many accept and justify.

THe commandemnts WERE made to be followed and CAN be followed by humans. It is idiotic to think that they were not intended to be followed. Yes we all slip up from time to time, but that is what repentance is for. If we are doing our best to keep the commandments, we will be able to enjoy the blessings of the atonement. That is what repentance is for.

Does the fourth commandment apply today? We need to see what the Bible says about it.

God promised to make a “new covenant,” which would not be like the one given to Israel when the nation left Egypt mention in Jer. 31:31.

They are called the covenant that God made with his people through Moses mention in Ex. 34:28 and Deut. 4:13 and this covenant is now obsolete mention in Heb. 8:13.

Christians are not required to keep "the law of Moses" mention in Acts 15.

God gave the Sabbath to the Israelites as a sign between God and the Israelites mention in Ex. 31:17.

The Sabbath made the Israelites different from other nations but Paul says that the laws that separated Jews and Gentiles have been done away by the cross of Christ mention in Eph. 2:11-18.

Paul affirmed that the “law of commandments” was abolished “through the cross” mention in Eph. 2:14. Similarly, the “bond written in ordinances” which contained such things as feast days, sabbaths, etc. was taken out of the way, having been nailed to the cross mention in Col. 2:14-16.

New Testament lead to the conclusion that the law of Moses with all of its components including the sabbath has been abrogated.

Jesus kept the Sabbath. Shouldn’t we follow his example? What kind of example did Jesus set on the Sabbath? The Bible never says that he rested we are told only of his activity.

Jesus never commands anyone to keep the Sabbath, nor praises anyone for it. Rather, he constantly criticized people who had rules about what could or could not be done on the Sabbath.

Jesus always taught more freedom, never any restrictions.

Did you know there are over 600 commandments in the Old Testament? Everyone knows "the 10" but few know how many there really are. The rules in the Book of Leviticus only pertain to the Levites. The temple priests.

Our friend DougDoug got it wrong when he said Christians just pick the ones they like and ignore the ones they don't.

The Sabbath has not been done away with. Christians should still keep the Lord's Day holy. We just keep a different holy day than our Jewish brothers and sisters.

In the letters of Sts. Peter and Paul you will find that our early church founders discovered, through visions of the Lord, that certain Jewish obligations did not pertain to Gentiles.

Check it out. Good stuff to read.

The Sabbath has never been done away with by God. The Mosaic law was done away with by Christ. Christ did not do away with the 10 commandments. Actually He quoted the commandments on several occasions, providing us with the deeper meanings of
God's commands. There is no "we" in our relationship with the Father and His Son Jesus the Christ. Our relationship is personal and is not dependent upon what others do or do not do.

The sabbath was not done away with, we are to take one day in seven to rest and commune with God and our brothers and sisters. But there is some thought that because Jesus is now our rest, everyday is a sabbath day. As Jesus said, "The sabbath was made for man, not man for the sabbath." Keeping the sabbath holy is to have a day of respite with the Lord. Being legalistic gains you nothing.

God did not do away with the Sabbath. The Sabbath is the 7th day on which God rested. When God wrote on the 10 Commandments that we must keep the Sabbath (The Lord's day) Holy. He meant that He wanted His people to set aside one day a week to rest from hard labor and to worship Him on that day. For the Jews the Sabbath was Saturday, but for most Christians it is Sunday. Our God is not so hard, narrow minded and unreasonable that He would condemn someone for resting and worshiping on different day besides Saturday.

The Pharisees were hardened, narrow minded and unreasonable for criticizing Jesus for healing the sick on the Sabbath. But Jesus rebuked them and asked them which one of them would not rescue their injured donkey on the Sabbath. Jesus Himself was severely criticized for doing many things on the Sabbath that the Pharisees said were against their "Laws". I believe that God is more interested in our hearts than in our rules and "laws". He told the Pharisees that they had hearts that were "Far from God".
, even though they obeyed all the "laws".

So don't you think God cares more about whether or not you set aside one day a week to worship, and not whether that day is a Saturday or a Sunday?

By the way, the 10 Commandments are God's "moral precepts" and Not His "laws". God's Morality will never change (That goes for ALL of the Commandments), even though His "Laws" can change and have changed with the times. Even Jesus stated that we will not go to Hell because we eat pork or not because He was referring to the law and Not a moral precept.

The Sabbath was never done away with. In a way, we have transferred it to sunday and Jesus made it clear that when we put our faith in him we find rest. Jesus is the Heavenly fullfillment of the sabbath as is much of the law. The 10 commandments never really went away, just in some cases took a different form or meaning. But things like do not murder and do not steal are pretty straightforward and universal.

The Sabbath was NOT done away with; just because MAN chooses not to follow all of God's commandments, doesn't mean that they were done away with. We follow all 10 commandments, because that's what God would want us to do, however, we are not saved by the commandments, but by Grace.

That was a society in which slavery existed; thus the people were masters and slaves. This commandment is addressed to the masters to keep the Sabbath day holy by not doing any work. It specifically says that even the slaves and animals should rest along with the masters.

The commandment of Sabbath – not to work—served as a leveler. The class difference was ignored that day, and all human beings came before the presence of the Lord as His people. They made that holy by treating all human beings as human beings, and not as slaves and masters. The masters made that day holy by humbling themselves before God, and by remembering that they were also slaves in Egypt, and by treating their slaves as their fellow beings.

Just as it happens to all holidays and observances, the Sabbath observance came down in history with its original meaning and purpose forgotten. Whether we come together on a Sunday or a Saturday or a Friday or any other day of the week, it helps us to remind ourselves that all human beings are God’s children, and that the world is a family.
