It depends on your tastes. My friend perfurs alcohol to taste like alcohol and drinks manhattans and pink gins (gin and bitters). my perfured mixed drink is a gibson because you can tell how decent a bartender is by how he makes your gibson. My brother drinks for taste, so he likes red headed sluts.

As far as sure alcohol goes. Hendrick Gin is pricey, but a very unique and interesting gin. A high quality regular gin is bombay sapphire. A typical gin is Beefeaters

Canadian Whiskey = No need to get the pricey stuff like crown royal. Winsor and Seagams are pretty much just as good.

Vodka = Lukashuwa s.p. is dang good stuffand pretty much anything triple distilled is safe. but if you hate yourself and want to get trashed. Drink Vlad.

Brandy = You have different kinds of brandy. VS (low quality) VSOP (mid quality) and XO. Just because something is VSOP doesn't make it better. A very generic brandy of brandy, E&J, Has a horrible vsop but a downright tastey VS. XO tends to sell for around a hundred dollars.

Sake = Most availible suck. The kinds that don't suck cost a bit. a korean sake known as Charm is pretty good and widely availible.

Wine = too complicated.

Rum = All rum is horrible, just drink it to get trashed so whatever is cheap and strong.

Bourbon = Tastes like someone blackened your whiskey with syrup. Makers Mark has been the best I have ever tasted.

forget the coke as it kills the flavour of the whiskey, try scotch on the rocks, or even better is Irish Whiskey on the rocks or with a little water.
If you have plenty of money then get into Verve Clicquot champagne
Last time I was in the US it was about $30. Sells for $80 in Australia. !
Happy drinking.

I like Captain & Coke. If you don't want a drastic change, this I think has a better flavor from the spiced rum.

7 & 7 (seagram's 7 and 7up)

Tequilla Sunrise.

Caphinera (spelling is all wrong, but it's brazilian sugar rum, crushed ice and mint and it is FANTASTIC)
