I am 56 and came from a family that was not what you would call close. My girlfriend is 44 ( the baby of the family) and her family is very close. The way her brothers-in law tease her bothers me. Example: she calls her sister...her brother-in-law answers the phone. He asks what she's up to. She says she's going to take a shower and go to bed . He asks her if she needs any help in the shower. She told him "No". The brother-in-law told me she was like a sister to him. I can't believe he'd ask his sister something like that. Was that comment appropriate?
Another brother-in law when my girlfriend had told him she was kind of bored, he asked her if she wanted to have a "roll in the hay".
You get the idea.
My girlfriend say they are only teasing and would never actually do anything. She says if it doesn't bother her then it shouldn't bother me. She might be right about that but I'm wondering if her brothers-in law really see her as a sister and are their comments appropriate.

If you wouldn't tease about doing your sister, why would you tease that way with your sister-in-law? It may be harmless but what's the point?

Talk to your gf again and tell her that its unappropriate that her brother-in-laws talk to her that way,She needs to tell them to stop. I mean are her sisters around when they say these things to her. Do they mind that their husbands are saying things like that to their own sister. I would get upset to. I know you dont want to sound like some jealouse maniac but jeesh, she's your girl and you just want more respect for her then what her brother-in-laws are giving her. If my brother-in-laws were to tell me something like that I would tell them straight off that i dont like it. Id nip it in the bud real quick. Maybe your gf likes the attention, but until she says something to them her brotherinlaws will continue to say things to your gf. and think its ok.

I have 8 brother in laws and I will tell you I am very close to 3 or 4 of them and sometimes they say stuff like that to me and I pay it no attention what so ever because I know that they are teasing me. If I thought for one moment they were serious about what they were saying they would be picking teeth from their tonsells.
We are close so teasing is easy, and they are brother in laws not brothers. If one of my two brothers said that stuff to me I'd think it was sick an perverted. Because we are blood related.
One example of some of the things my brother in law said to me is " we were on the dance floor dancing at a club and my youngest brother in law (5 years younger than me ) runs up behind me and grabs me and starts dirty dancing against me and yells out You broke my heart why didn't you wait till I was old enough before you married my brother. The whole club screamed and yelled with laughter. It was all in fun
If you trust her and she is a good honest moral person then whats the problem

I have a very close in-law family and I joke with my sisters-in-laws much the same way just joking around. I think its harmless.

I'M SURE THEY DON'T THINK OF HER AS A "SISTER", BUT SOME GUYS JOKE AROUND LIKE THAT. I HAVE A MALE FRIEND THAT I JOKE AROUND WITH IN THAT MANNER BUT WE ARE IN NO WAY ROMANTICALLY INTERESTED IN EACH OTHER. WHO KNOWS?
