I would be interested in instant messaging with some of US Soldiers. But, I would like to talk about their perspective of things. I'm tired of news stories...I want to talk directly. I think there is alot we don't hear.

It all depends on what facilities are available in their area. Most are able to talk online...but, no offense, most will probably spend it speaking with family and loved ones. They also probably don't want to talk about their duty all the time.

I agree that we need a more realistic perspective. My husband is active duty and my BIL served over a year in Iraq (and has plans to go back) and what we hear in the news is not the entire story. There is much good happening in Iraq, and much progress.

If you are interested in contacting "real" troops, try a group such as adoptaplatoon.org or anysolider.com, they can hook you up with penpals that are deployed. Many of them are able to use email as well, so it isn't all pen and paper.

They can talk online but not all of the time. When my fiance was in Iraq he used to sign in at all times of crazy hours but there would be times when I didn't hear from him online for days. If he was on a mission he couldn't get to where the computers were. I used to stay signed into messenger 24/7 with my speakers on full blast so I wouldn't miss him if he came on.

You could always E-mail or write to them. And if you want to, you can 'adopt' a soldier by going to the link below.

And if would depends on what unit they are in, of course special ops, would not be able to communicate online, but others will be able to.

yes they are on line but need to use that time for family and friends. when they only have 4 days then out on mission that could get them killed. So who would you want to talk to if you were them, Sorry, but i wiil not give up my time so you can ask how they feel about the war, My boyfriend ,has been in the Army for 22 years and would die for you but do not ask him about this war he would say this he loves his job , and war sucks no matter what war it is.

they are if they are in a enviroment with access but they can't talk about operational security to you and if they are dumb abd decide to and you listen you are just as guilty as them for putting the operastional security of the US forces out there

yes, its the best way for them to stay in touch, But, their computer time is very limited, due to others that need it and their duties.
