No, we don't get it as a paid holiday, but we are allowed to book it off through the holiday rota, or take it as unpaid. Oh, and it's Halloween, or Samhain.

No unfortunately that is not true, in actual fact no one has the right to take a day off work for a religious holiday, there are no laws to say that employers have to do this, the only thing the law covers is prejudice – say for example they allow a Christian or a Muslim off work for a religious holiday, but not a Pagan, then if the Pagan should want they can threaten legal action, but most don't.

I cannot for the live of me find the link to the exact law that covers this, but it is there, unfortunately in my last job both myself as a Pagan and my friend as a Christian were refused religious holidays off [Samhain for me, Christmas for him] – although oddly they allowed the Muslim staff time off work for religious reasons, it is political correctness and employees wetting themselves at the thought of legal action that allowed them the time off rather than law.

If you are in England and you want a religious holiday off you have to put holiday days in well in advance, and that does not always result in you having the time off – on the plus side however I have this Samhain (Halloween) off :o)

Hmmm Not sure but I wouldn't doubt it. Halloween (which is also known by other names to Pagans, etc.) is a day Pagans celebrate, like any other Holiday. So why should they have to work.go to school? I'm not 100% positive, though.

I don't know, but with the recent revelations that the USA finds Paganism to be evil and Canada doesn't allow handfastings, England's sounding rather nice now.

When I was Pagan and living in America I would always take it off as a religious holiday. Just tell you boss you need it off for religious observance and explain your beliefs. Basically most bosses will let you off out of fear of being sued.
