This 16yr Friend of mine here in Canada meets this 14yr old girl over the net in the UK. This is his first girlfriend he's ever had and he keeps saying he's in love with her, and now he's planning on spending hundreds of dollars just to meet her in person. I told him it wasn't a good idea and he got pissed, whats your opinion?

It really isn't a good idea, but there is little you can do to stop him. Relationships like this seem ideal for mid teens because there is so little physical embarassment. It is easy to push a lot of the awkward things aside for an online relationship and young boys may have a hard time screwing up the courage to talk to a girl in person.

All you can do is try to talk to him and hope he loses interest one way or another.

Not a good idea either but he will have to learn the hard way.I think u should keep the rest of your opinion to yourself. When he comes back from the trip and is very discouraged then a good friend would be there for him.It isn't worth losing your friendship with him just to get your point across. When it comes to young people thinking there in love they have to find out the hard way. Good luck

Personally, I would let him do it. Otherwise, he will always wonder what it would have been like. But, you better tell him to make certain it is ok with her parents.

you are right to have told him this-did you tell him if this gets too serious for them right now, that they could get in trouble with the law?
